Holy shaZam! That had to hurt!!!!!  Glad your OK!!!  On the other end of the spectrum I recently had a run in with a semi on a road in-town where he decided he had right of way cause he was bigger.......I tapped my 20 mile old brake pads and it locked at about 40 ........I went flying in my track pants and t-shirt..........the damage??? bent handlebars,  obliterated speedo and my tail fairings got pretty f%&ked up.....The brand new Mac laptop in my backpack was perfectly fine.  and I just scraped my knee up..  That day I went out and bought a riding jacket......And if you're looking for good pants to ride in  try 5.11 tactical duty uniform pants.  they come in a wide variety of colors and have some pretty solid knee pads included  without compromising mobility......and they only run about 40 bucks...I wear em all the time now.   Ohhh and if your looking for gear definately check out Dennis Kirk's outlet   I got an AFX  Full face that goes for about 100 bucks around my way in shops for 25 with shipping.  Anyway, sorry about your bike but it coulda been you with all the broken somethings.......so yay for gear!!!

QuoteWhen I was down there I understood the actual need for high performance in a car. Power, handling, and braking. Didn't see too many beat up Volvos in LA... probably would be run off the road and devoured.

I havea beat up old Volvo, and I live in Southern California.  It gets the job done just fine. Californians just love to buy new cars. I've lived many other places in the country (and in Canada, for that matter), and I've NEVER seen so many freaking new cars as down here. If your car is two years old in So. Cal. it's "old". :cookoo: Seems like a damn waste of money to me, but hey, it's their money I guess. I'll stick with my 16 year old Volvo (with a quarter million miles on it) and my 13 year old GS any day.

What happenend to the Vid?

Mk1inCali

If you read the thread, it will tell you that he took it down for liability's sake.

Glad to hear you are alive, and I request you post the vid up once your legal "stuff" is completed.  I've been lane-splitting daily in SoCal for 4 years now, and I have not had any incidents, nor seen any incidents in almost 50K logged miles.  As long as you aren't bouncing off the cars, I think overall it is quite safe.  When I first came to CA I didn't think I'd ever do it, and now it just jacks my consciousness way up, so I'm hyper sensitive to any erratic movement on either side.

Just saw this.. That sucks.. I am familiar with that area, and ALL freeways here can be unpredictable, unfortunately. Looked like that was completely unavoidable, other than going slower, anything more than 5-10mph above traffic speed and you are at risk of something like that, just cant stop in time.

its an understandable thing to happen from both your sides, glad everything turned out all right.

Hey blast. Good to see you're doing well after all the mess. You mentioned 'editing' the video before posting it online.

I wonder if you were playing prior to that, and wanted to edit out the scenes that wouldn't be approved of ?

I also wonder if you would mind emailing or pm'ing me what you think the traffic's speed was, and what YOUR OVERTAKING SPEED was ?

I'm not bashing you, mind, just wondering. I couldn't care less about the legal implications, if any. I'd like to know for my own riding safety.

Thanks again for having the balls to post your crash. The gsx650f looks like a nice ride. :)

Thanks

I wasnt going too fast it just looks fast in the video.
I didnt get any infraction or anything.
I didnt edit out me doing a wheelie on the freeway! lol

I just had to edit it because its a very long video.
Maybe I should have said cutting it short and to the point.
I always ride nice. Do you really want to anylize my hour ride?

The highway patroll my lawyer and their layer saw the whole video.
We all agree that van driver is at fault and I didnt break any laws.
Thanks to the video.

Why would it take balls to post my accident?
I think its awesome.

You guys should all have cams.

Just kidding ... I assume that the case was settled long ago, and that you just now got around to posting about it.  No foul!

What cam you using ? I want one.

Prafeston

I was wondering that too. The camera seemed to do well through the wreck. Didn't vibrate that much or anything. Was also wondering how you installed it. Got pictures of the camera on the helmet?

But its faster than my other bike accident.
Some other guys I know have waited like a year and a half.

you dont have to wait. if the waiting bothers you, you can get on the phone and email.

after my crash totaled out my bike, i called the opposing company and two months later the adjuster hadnt even taken a statement from their own party. i raised hell and rode her ass about it because they had no urgency whatsoever, while it was my only mode of transport and it mattered a lot to me.

i pushed it from my company's side too, and gave the other party shaZam! for avoiding doing anything as well. they eventually all got on it and i got a check a few months later. If i hadn't made those calls and emails i would probably still be waiting for it.

damn, i was just riding on the same freeway and splitting the same lanes today. people who cut out of carpool illegally like that (especially during traffic) all need to die. wtf are they thinking? geezus.  :2guns:

glad you're alright, bro.

Yeah but I was broken and was in physical therapy and didnt work for 7 months.
I was my only transport to at the time.

I had to rebuild my totaled cad with just one arm! No biggie.
I was just rims, radiator , intercooler , AC condenser, cooling fan.
I love my Volvo!

Two crashes in ten days--unreal. Good to hear you're ok and the settlement went smoothly. Will you be getting back on a bike after all this?
