Last year I started collecting parts to set my '91 GS500 up with the wider GSXR rear wheel. I scored an 89 GSXR rear wheel off eBay, bought a spare front GS wheel, a GSXR rear brake assembly, a rear rotor to fit, and a new set of Pilot Powers in 150/60/17 rear and 110/70/17 front. The idea was to be able to swap everything back to stock.

Well, I wound up selling the bike earlier this spring without ever getting the swap done. I need to clear this stuff out of my basement before my wife kills me.



Here are the wheels. The rear wheel from eBay had been painted at least 3 times, and after various stripping chemicals I wound up buying a media blasting kit for my air compressor and going at it. About halfway through this process, my compressor seized up. I got fed up, shoved everything under my workbench, and never got around to finishing the job. The remainder of the rear wheel still needs to be blasted.

The front wheel stripped pretty clean with aircraft stripper, but will need blasting to get the paint off the spokes. You can paint it as it stands now, though.

The wheels still have the bearings they came with installed in them, along with the stock axle spacers.

These will run you about $230 shipped from SWMototires.com. You can wedge a 150 width tire onto the stock GS rear wheel, but I wouldn't recommend it.
