i posted in the meet & greet on the SD riders thread, but no response...

is our socal rider population okay?  any stories to share about the fires?

i know i came about an hour from having to evac on sunday afternoon, but then the winds changed direction.  now i've just got the nuclear-fallout orange sky from sunrise to sunset.

hope you and your families are safe.

checking in. we are okay.  we live in east escondido and we were worried the fire in valley center would get over the mountain and into escondido.
i've had a traumatic week [one of my dogs died on friday   ] but at least our house is okay, my whole family is safe.  my brother's family lives in scripps ranch and he was forced to evacuate.  he was just able to get back to his house and it is still there, but the fire came within 10 feet of his back yard.  i feel so sad for those who have lost their homes, and some have even lost loved ones.

i was in san jose on my way back from boston sunday when i heard about all the fires.  our flight back to orange county was delayed then cancelled.  i just wanted to get home to my family so my friend and i rented a car and drove from san jose to orange county, where my car was parked at her house and then i drove home from orange county to san diego.  it was a long day.

last i heard the fire was still burning in near daley ranch and dixon lake but they say that it's a "controlled burn." they also have some fires and backfires in the san pasqual valley area that are "controlled."

Hey, Linh...sorry about your dog.

well my friends parents in rancho cucumunga had to be evacuated for a while, but their house still stands.

My aunt last night was getting ready to evac, but i dont know if the house in west hills (simi valley fire) still stands.

I am not sure if a family friends house in chatsworth still stands or not. Got to talk to mom to get teh updates.

The permenant grey fog has finally settled in over LA.
Yesterday was pretty clear until I made a run up to Ventura and got rained on by the ash. It smelled like a campfire you can't walk away from.  :(  I can't beleive how many homes are gone. It is so sad that I won't go into my speach about why I think building homes in the hills makes little sence.

Linh, sorry about your dog.

We're currently waiting to hear about my inlaws house and several people we know up in Crestline.  They were all evacuated a few days ago and haven't heard news on any structures.  I've only gotten word that it may have servived via a web site www.rimoftheworld.net and a link to a local's web page who has been updating it when he finds out something new.

All are safe and had a chance to grab some important stuff before getting the boot.

I hope and pray that all of you and your families are safe.

Note to self: If you're gonna live out in the boonies,  at least live next to a lake.

So you can go jump in it.

Hey all!  Hope you are all safe.  From what I hear, all my family is safe, but several people I know from my mother's work have been evacuated.  A few people have lost houses.  Sorry 'bout your dog Linh.  I had a dog die like two years ago from parvo, and have been iffie about getting another.  But I think I'm going to buy my ma a chocolate lab when I get back from the desert.

Good to know people are doing well!
Central Cal just got a fat batch of seriously wet fog (not quite rain yet) after 2 weeks of crazy heat.  Hopefully the wet will spread north and south.
Nor Cal is having fires too, they just haven't made the news.  My dear friend living near Redding has not only been on constant stand by as a volunteer fire fighter, but has had some *really* close calls with fires up there getting close to her rescue horses.  But you'd never know, as it isn't news worthy.

My wife's parents house in Valley Center is gone.
My best friend's house behind Valley View Casino is gone.
A few (3) childhood friend's lost their homes in Rincon (the Indian reservation).
2 other good friends are going to MOST LIKELY lose their home on Palomar.
My boss and one of the other employees here lost homes in Scripps Ranch.

I was helping a friend in the Eagle Crest area wet his house down when they were evacuated - but everything is "fine". The fire seems to be heading away, but with the winds and living so close to canyons and such you never know. I've got my cats living in Murrietta with friends right now and the wife's car is full of "emergency" stuff just in case. I lent my 4-Runner to her parents so they could sleep in it (it's set-up for camping - electrical outlets, 2 high-output batteries, flood lights, a small water tank, shower spout, and heater, a small tent I had attached to the rear of the truck, and a small electrical stove you can run off one of the batteries... close to their burnt home (they lost everything plus one of their cars) and use it to move things around for the next few days. Riding a bike in this smoke sucks!!!

The air is cleaner today but yesterday is was HORRIBLE...I work in Mission Valley so I got to drive the length of the fire through Mira Mesa and Tierrasanta. The sky was red - and very dark. My house in Escondido is covered with an inch of ash and burnt oak leaves and small burnt branches. It's a very sad situation.
