Hello.

Im a fairly new rider, passed my test two years ago.  Bought an '03 GS500 off my boyfriend [imagine him not just giving it to me ;-)]

I love my Suzy, but want her a little more 'sporty'.  I found and bought the below fairing off ebay....

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190171743943&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=009

What I dont know, is all the how, where and whatelse I need to go with it to get it fitted.

The dealer who services the bike is more than willing to fit it, for a nice 'fee'.  What Id like to do is watch my costs, by not having him get me all the other parts.

Can someone point me in the right direction?   Is it worth mentioning Im based in the UK?

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated!

Hi, welcome. There are a couple of members here who have an Airtech kit which is what I believe that is. They have not been heard from lately though. The most important part is locating a headlight, obviously.  Much of the mouting hardware could probably be bought at a hardware store. Post on the For Sale/WTB section for your wish list. Thats probably the best way to make your needs known. Other things to think about are the mirrors. I don't know if the stock ones would still function with that fairing or not. Plus, it's got holes for new mirrors anyhow.

Hello...Is it worth mentioning Im based in the UK?

Greetings and welcome! We have several participants in the UK that may step up to assist you if their time and location allow.

Regarding the ebay.uk listing, the mounting hardware seems to be missing if I read the question there correctly. The headlight also seems to be rectangular, though a head-on photo is not provided. Fabricating the hardware would take a lot of time and may not be worth the effort if a complete kit can be obtained.

Looks similar to mine but with a single headlamp set-up. I believe the fairing was made by a spanish company, its very rare, difficult to source and expensive. Suzuki fitted them to some models here in the UK as an option when new before launching the GS500F. Like SW says there appears to be a lot of parts missing. Did you get all the mounting hardware (and there is lots of it including an inner frame that supports the headlamp and front indicators), the mirrors and their support bracket, the perspex upper screen and the black plastic instrument surround as well?...... Without these parts its going to be difficult.

I am working away from home now for about 10 days and presently logged on in a Travelodge in Birmingham  :icon_confused: When I get home I will post some pics of mine to give you some ideas.

Just done a bit of digging and found this. It is the same as mine after all. Plenty of info including contact details on the site, my guess is you should be able to buy any missing parts from a suzuki dealer if you tell them its the TCP fairing or the bottom link lists TCP dealers in the UK.

Hi Shirlz  , I've got that same spanish made fairing ( you can see some of it in the avatar )

The fairing comes in 7 main plastic pieces that bolt together , they mount using special adapters that bolt on the frame of the bike

and on the engine mount bolts. Also the original kit came with headlight bracket , the headlight itself (  dual or rectangular ) and mirrors.

The mounting adapters can be fabricated ,the headlight bracket can be tricky ,cause the front fairing bolts to it and it carries it's weight ,also

you'll have to source headlights that fit.

Best option is to source the original parts they'll fit 100%  :thumb:

Here are couple of the mounting adapters :

Sledge - I appreciate the advice.  I will have a look at the links in a min.  Thank you very much for helping.   I have one other question I forgot to ask... is it possible to get the fairing re-sprayed?   If so, can u suggest a place?   I think the proper colour of mine is called something like Candy Blue, its the Suzuki blue from '03 registration plate.   I dont know how to upload a photo to let you be able to see it.

Im in Manchester tmrw, will do my best to get online at some point tmrw.  But will be for sure back on Tues probably asking more questions.  Im keen to try to get the fairing on before the weather turns so i can go a wee run before i put her away for the winter!!

Im humbled by the help, just need direction now on how to post photos :-)

Thanks!

Affschnozel,
Yours is different. Your fairing looks like a quarter fairing or cafe fairing. Shirlz's is a full fairing.

Shirl?
I have used these people on 3 occasions.....cant fault them, ask for a price up front then haggle a bit off. They are only 10 mins from me but if its too far for you just google "motorcycle paintwork" and your hometown......there will be someone local.

Yeah...Afschnozzles fairing is totaly different, compare the headlamp cut-out and screen. I have seen a few like it over here on older GS5s but dunno if the fixings are the same or if your will will pick up on the same centers.

How can you say its the same? The upper half is totaly different, look closely at headlamp cut-out and the edges of the screen. The one on this site is shirls and its nothing like yours.

Affschnozel

I'm not talking out of my behind ,I know this fairings well they are the same ,except older version is dual headlight and

the newer one is as in the above link you've posted rectangular

......and the screen, and the area under the indicators, and the area around the mirror mounts, plus the vent directly under the screen.........so what exactly is the same?

Affschnozel

OK let me elaborate , there are some minor cosmetic differences as one might expect from developing product, yes?

Now Shirlz was asking about missing bits to mount that fairing ,that was her main point right?

Now I claim that both these fairings are from the same company and have the same mountings to the bike , in

that, they are the same ,that was my point , just tried to help ...

Here I found two GS's , same year , same color , in two of the versions:

Just minor changes between them...

BTW those with long legs find these fairings very uncomfortable ,the knees hit the mid part of it
