I have a 3 year old bottle of Sta-Bil.  I only use a few ounces a year.  I started to pour some out this year, and noticed red flakes floating in the Sta-Bil!  The bottle says shelf life is 2 years.  I guess they really mean it.

The question here is, how do you stabilize sta-bil? lol

Gasoline, of course. 

I saw the same thing in my Sta-bil this year.  It's probably about the same age, but I can't be sure.  I dumped it in anyway since it was the last of the bottle, trying to avoid pouring the flakes in.  We'll see what happens in spring

mine went the same way this year though it out!

Its spring now, and my GS started on the second blip of the starter   Seems to be running well, so I don't think the flakes in the Sta-bil had much if any effect.  My lawn mower that also got some of the flakey stabil is running fine too. 

In conclusion: old sta-bil with red flakes in it seems to be fine, but if you want to play it safe, get some fresh stuff

Oh yea, the shelf life of this thread is more than the shelf life of stabil I am sure
