Hey Pablo,

I've had Verizon long enough that my email is @bellatlantic.net. Four years ago when I first got it, it was a little unreliable, but beat the snot out of dial-up.

Now it's very reliable, and still fast (400k down on it's worst day from a test server in CA) but usually 20% faster than that. I just tested it through dslreports and it was 515k down. Up is not as fast, but unless you plan onusing your box as a server, who gives a crap.

I work for SBCDSL tech support .
DSL is Ok /  but cable is great :-)

Our customers get on the normal speed plans 1.2mbps down
I get 3.3mbps ...  had 12 h of downtime in 6mo.
My Cable provider is COX .

Remember speed REALLY depends in the area you live in
it maybe better to go DSL for you if your cable node is packed up
Anyway find out if you can opt out form the contract  in the first
mo. so you could change providers .

all i have to say is omfg, I didnt think my cable was THIS FAST!!!!!!!

I doubt you guys have it over there in CA, but I have timewarner's Roadrunner. It costs a bit less than aol does, but its not slow as hell or dumb and retarded   I'll look and see if they do anything over in your neck of the woods!

I wholeheartedly agreee with you, there is no way i could live on 56k now. Trust me, I tried, cousin has 56k and I spent a week overthere and i swear i was shaking!!

1.  Make sure rate won't go up
2.  verify there is no download limit, or go with the one that is higher
3.  Make sure the modem rental is included in the price

Other than that, happy hunting.

Ask your neighbors. Service for both varies by neighborhood. Or, get a wireless NIC and see if anyone has left their wireless access point open.

Seriously, ask around and if you can do tests on their computers using dslreports.com. Once you get either, install a Cable/DSL router. If you don't you're leaving your computer wide open to popups, viruses, etc.

try dslreports.com for broadband in your area.

My friend has Covad, and is happy with it, SBC wouldnt provide him but Covad did.

Verizon isnt too bad in LA from what i hear.

If you got attbi for cable then you might want to go for it.

at my gf's house when ur browsing itll be pretty normal and once in a while itll take like 2 minutes to load a page...it does this enough and long enough to make u forget why the internet was so cool
my friend complains about it too
i have time warner (road runner) cable and have no problems except for uploading...i think they have a ghey ghey upload cap at 45 kbps
im not sure but i dont think optimum online has this cap
Don't mind me I'm just new.

I just got a real computer and sbcdsl/yahoo. Wanted to get Comcast cable but it wasn't available right now. So I'm locked in for a year. The promo rate is $26.95 for 12 months. After Webtv and dial, up this is blindingly fast.
I had to connect by using the yahoo install disc. But I'm setup with Mozlla as my default homepage. It's setup to alert me when someone wants to set a cookie and I don't get any popups. I have a client that set me up. I never would be able to do this on my own.
