Also, there seems to be a glitch in the starting system on my bike.  The starter button doesnt always turn it over.  We thought it may be in the kickstand button/switch.  Anyone have any ideas please feel free to chime in.   :icon_razz:

There is a clutch safety switch as well that could be the culprit.  It seems to mess up more often than the kickstand switch.

We have the same year and color, isn't it just gorgeous??!!  :icon_mrgreen:  Has it been re-jetted? I don't trust mine at low rpms and so wind it up in first gear more than that, very nice job you did of starting off, and it sounded really agreeable and civil! (Mine will do that but I don't trust it in traffic!).
Yeah, my other bike is so old I totally didn't even think "pull in clutch to start" on the GS until I was scratching my head, trying to figure out why it wouldn't crank!  Then I thought, oh, only thing left is maybe it has a clutch safety, duh. My old XT has a neutral safety, old bike stuff, what I'm used to.

My first ride was like 5 minutes, which made me decide to buy it, and I had to go an extra block to wipe the grin off of my face so I could haggle it down!  :icon_mrgreen:

My T-Day ride was great, but it was on my XT, the GS refused to crank over before the battery died. (Adds new battery to list of "mods")...

I just got "Sport Riding Techniques: How To Develop Real World Skills for Speed, Safety, and Confidence on the Street and Track " by Nick Ienatsch, awesome book and perfect for riding the GS like you were made for each other. I rec it to everyone.

You will have so much fun on this bike!

Cool man , congrats ! :thumb:

I noticed the clunky 1st gear engagement ,you can tighten the clutch cable a little bit and it will be smoother  ;)

Nice ride you've scored. I've really got to question not wearing a full face helmet though. C'mon, your face is a terrible thing to waste.

Keep us updated on your progress and once you've got your camera sorted, post more rides.

very true!! get a full face helmet, jacket and some gloves for start, then boots and pants. doesn't have to be $900 helmet and $500 jacket but little is better than nothing  :thumb:
check out the mesh jackets - they are not as tough as leather but they are half the price of leather plus they are great in summer - keep you cool.

how in god's name do you wheelie it as a n00b? i have a 14t sprocket and it still won't wheelie without a ton of clutch and/or standing on the rears

I wasn't speaking seriously... I do know one can't wheelie a bike as a n00b (me being in the 1st place) :icon_mrgreen:
