(US) Vehicle registration, and how does it work?
I am asking because I thought about buying maybe a GS or a bandit, in the states and maybe getting storage or even better someone of one the forums I am in, to store and maybe use the bike, so that when I take any vacations in the states I could use the bike, as it as to be better and cost les than hiring one from a dealer, and from what I can see the bikes cost less in the states than in the UK. Or would this be a bad idea ?
Never regret the things that  you have done in life, only  the things, you have not done !

I'd gladly store and ride your bike occationally if you bought one. Too bad no one vacations in Missouri. Talk to some Cali guys or something.

I think insurance would be the big issue... Not so much registration... Hell, just put a used plate on it and ride.. not much they can do if you are from another country  :thumb:

Registration depends on the state.

Also insurance on the GS is reasonable since it is a 500cc standard, I paid $8 a month for full coverage when I had mine.

The same insurance company quoted me $200 a month for liability only on the 954, I promptly called my wifes insurance agent and wound up switching to state farm since full coverage with them was $25 a month. While we still had the GS I paid $32 a year for full coverage on it from state farm.

Do not stick used plates on it and piss off the LEO's. We already have enough issues with anti riding legislators because people can't exercise some amount of self control on the streets already.

In oklahoma you have to be a licensed driver to register a vehicle.

They will also issue licenses to foreign nationals legally in the U.S. with a passport and a secondary form of ID.

Just read a little more because I was bored.

If you are on a short term visit to the states for business frequently or what not it does not appear, at least here in OK that you can get a state issued license, as such you would not be able to purchase a bike and register it. Your best bet would be to find a mate here who would do something like register and store a vehicle for you, Insurance really isn't a big issue on the GS especially if you are older.

Ok my life sucks all I do is research shaZam! non stop... :cookoo:

you'll be better off renting a bike. there are places, at least here in SoCal where you can rent all sorts of bikes from sportbikes to harleys.

depending on where you want to visit, I could easily register and store a bike here in FL.  it'd be cheaper to rent one though.
looking for a new vehicle again.

Yea unless your talking about spending sorta 4-6 months a year of your time in the states it would be a waste of cash to buy a bike and insure it and store it somewhere, as well as the hassel. Just best renting.
