I am ready to do the 600 mile service on a 2001 GS500.  Should I use regular 10w40 or buy motorcyle oil?

Thanks

well it dosent matter, but after break in (3k mi or so) go mobil1 synth 5w-50

however now, any oil will do the same, AS LONG AS its not "friction reducing" kind.. it has teflon in it and fucks your filter

just get the normal old 10w-40 car oil

I have always used Castrol Syntec Blend 10W-40 with no problems.

The main thing is to change it regularly and don't let it get too low.

I alwasy a use a synthetic motorcycle oil by MOTOL. For some reason I always buy vehical specific products. My car gets stuff I buy in a performance shop, my motorcycles gets stuff from a motorcycle shop, I treat all my toys like that. I dont think its necisary, but fro some reason it gives me piece of mind knowing the product I used was designed (or at least labeled) for use in my aprticular vehical. Thast just my opinion though. Im sure that most of the time, its nothing more than a labels thast the differance between products.

Me too, I never put anything but 10W-40 motorcycle-specific oil in my GS. Like you said, it gives me a piece of mind. :)
