You are limited to static tests, ie measuring across each lead and checking/comparing for open/closed circuits and resistance figures against the known values of a servicable item. A dealer might have factory test equipment that will simulate a dynamic test (how it functions while in use) but they will probably charge you a nominal amount for carrying out any tests.

You need a good one to compare it with, or need to know the resistance readings you can expect to get from a good one but even that may not be 100% conclusive as you dont know how it will perform when operating......and in saying that, if you have another one to hand which is known to be good its probably easier to fit it to the bike and see if it runs.

Static test is plenty, mine has trouble getting bike to get the starter cranking.
Anyway, there is 2-3 people who do component level tests including one who'd rebuild it in england for 135 lbs.
There is also 1 guy in oregon who will rebuild a 750/700, 84+  or a 500 TCI just not a 1000/1100 or a metal boxed 750 or 920.
The Metal ones do not have failures really (rare he says) 1000/1100's also fail rarely as per him. The reason he doesn't do it is cos he doesn't have a 1000 or a 1100 so its not plug and play for him to test it.
Might have him do it. There is also another guy who wants to make a circuit diagram out of it.

Vision TCI is similar to the 500/700 TCI and I have been looking at that page for over 5 years. or 3 years or so.
