Oh joy oh joy...  the bike is almost finished.  ITs taken me since july to get my but in gear and do it.
But two weeks of working on it inbetween two jobs and its almost done.  I have yet to put gas in the tank and fire it up.  This is mainly because i work early in the morning till late at night and i dont want to   A: start the bike and run the loud engine at 1230 at night or B: not be able to start the bike and hurl a bunch of not so nice words throughout the neighborhood at 1230 at night.
But the good news is
1- recovered the seat and took pics--will try to do write up if anybody thinks its worth it.
2- Added a scorpion exhaust and took pics--will try to do a write up if anybody thinks it will help.
3. Had to rewire everything on the throttle assembly because a 92 kat plug does not sync up with a 96 gs plug.
Again took pics and will do a write up .....This one i know will help someone in the future.
4. Droped the round headlight and wired in an aftermarket one.  (took pics and will write this up because i havent seen it done yet.)
5 Hooked up and mounted a 636 taillight i believe( took pics will post with write up.)

I hope all this will be done by thursday night (only night off).

I will post pics of the bike when i get home tonight and try to type up some of the other stuff.  IF anybody thinks that some of these are a waste please let me know for it will save me time.  On the other hand if anybody wants these done let me know so that i can try to get them done as soon as possible. If anyone has any questions or comments feel free to post away....

ohgood

blah blah blah PICTURES blah blah blah...

just kidding man. really want to see the end result, and your words will be nice to read too.

congrats on a project almost complete.  O0

I would appreciate seeing how you did what you did.  My seat cover has developed a couple of small "fissures", and I know it's only a matter of time....  :icon_confused:

ok i just got home from work and decided no matter what i would take some time out and post some pics.

Keep in mind its late when i did this..

for those who dont know i tore it down in july and it look like this

after having to let it sit on the back burner for awhile .... it is finally coming to a finish point.

Unfortunately when we tried to start it for the first time yesterday gas started flowing out of the carbs.  Apparently the guy i took it to to have it jetted didnt screw the bowl down all the way.  So we took the tank + some off to get to them ..(thats why nothing lines up in the pictures.)

I did put a scorpion exhaust on it.

and redid the seat from this

to this

I will finish the write up on the seat by tomorrow along with more pics for it.

I did swap out the headlight for this.  Which does put out some nice light and looks great on the bike even though you cant tell in the pics

I will add all the rest later with greater details.  put for now i need to get some sleep.  I hope this will hold you guys off for now.

i didnt take any pics of how i mounted the the guages.  It was to simple while i was doing it that it didnt even occur to me.
Step one  take a flat piece of metal. I used a galvinized  electrical box cover.
step two  Cut out some inch wide and six inch long strips.
Step three drill two holes in them one on each end
First one the size of the bolt that hold the bars onto the triple
The second the size of the gs cluster guages
Step four  add a bend in them where they come out from underneath the triple.
step five   Mount on kat bolts that secure the handle bars.
Step six    mount on gs bolts.
I reused the rubber spacers to help with vibration.  You might have to do a little extra bending to adjust for the tach cable.

As far as the headlight goes jay...It looks great in real world time.  as far as photo world ehh.....not so great..

I made that GS - KAT weld dealio for you when you were working on getting it fitted.
I cut the ears off the GS triple, put them on the Kat triple, located it and welded it. I also milled the inside of the triple where the stem goes. It will not fit wihtout spacers anywhere - I dunno if you remember, but you were asking me to make one for you, I said the tiple has been milled already, so the thing is gonna fit like mine.
Anyway If you dont want that, cool, I'll prolly hold on for the next kat FE I do.
Cool.

I was thinking about you ... I fitted it up yesterday - I'll send you pics. The welder dude took sooooooo looooooong I didn't have time to powdercoat it, and worse I had to drive there to get it the day I was leaving. PITA.
Cool.
