Last night a friend of mine was killed on his motorcycle when a pickup pulled in front of him at about 10:00 PM.  He was wearing his helmet, and was on a highway when the truck pulled out from a side street directly in his path.  Mark hit the drivers door of the pickup and was killed.

I had known him since high school and he was an excellent and accomplished musician.  He had played tuba in the Sacramento Symphony and for the last several years was playing and teaching in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.  I had just seen him 10 days ago when we played a concert together.  He will be missed.

The funeral will be the day after Christmas (it was changed to Dec. 28).  On a positive note, many D-FW area musicians (including me) are donating money from their Christmas gigs to the family.  Mark would have played on several of these gigs.

Thanks to everyone for their prayers and thoughts.  Sometimes wearing gear isn't enough...

He taught private lessons in Grapevine, where I went to high school, so I heard about it through old band friends, too.  Such a tragedy.  My thoughts are with his family.

A fund has been set up to help Mark's family.  Any amount is welcomed.  He left behind a wife and three children (one in college, two in HS).

Click the link below and you'll be directed to a page on the D-FW Musician's Union site where you can email a pledge.  You'll then get a PayPal invoice corresponding to your pledge.

Thanks to everyone who responded and/or read this and thought or prayed about his family.
