So this has been my habit for years now.

Get home from work late at night (11pm-2am), stay up until 4am-6am, sleep in until 1pm-3:30pm.

Some of these nights are going out nights, but 95% of the time I just like it when it's late and I dont feel like I have to do anything but what's going on in my room. Usually I spend a lot of time on the computer, writing, playing games, or maybe watching movies/reading.

What sucks about this lifestyle is it's off kilter from the rest of society, not to mention not natural or conducive to having a full day lit by the sun. I keep wanting to shift into daytime mode but force of habit keeps me staying up late. Its just comfortable.

Another factor is that I'm kind of getting over thinking bars and clubs are good social destinations per se, and would rather start doing stuff in the day like normal people.

Also the FDA is supposedly going to designate graveyard shift as a carcinogen, as it puts your body out of wack or something.

Anyone else have similar habits?

use to have that shift.  Back when i was in charge of security here at a club then moved up to bartending then over to managing one. Did this for four years.  As of july i was forced to change my schedule to early morning mode. get up at 6 go to work get home at 6 change go to other job get home at 11 pm.  My body had issues changing over for the first month but after that ive adapted just fine.  Still miss being a creature of the night though.

I ran a bar for 5 years and worked nights in a sheetmetal fabrication shop for a couple of years. I have never felt fully rested working days and sleeping nights, on the best of nights I have a hard time going to sleep and sleeping all night but if the sun is coming up I can sleep like a baby for 8 hours solid.

running the bar i got home from work around 3:30 am would have a bite to eat and a beer while watching a movie would crash around 6 and get up at 2 or 3 pm.

the CNC sheetmetal shop job was 3 12 hour shifts and a 6 hour shift then off 3 days. 6pm to 6am sun thru tues and 6 to midnight on wedenesdays.

On my days off I typically did not crash till around 4 am but tried to make sure I was up by 9 or 10 to do a few things during the day.

I hate working days because I never seem to feel good, no matter how well rested I am. Some people are just twisted to be nocturnal.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

I seem to be in the case also.
Working as an operator in an experimental powerplant which is running 24/7/365 (except for maintenance, of course).
My schedule is quite tight I don't even have the time to get accustomed to one shift that I have to change shift, i.e. 2x morning (6am-2pm), 2x afternoon (2-10pm), 2x night (10pm-6am), 2x off, 2x normally-off but available for any shift (in case other fellows can't come) = 10 day-cycle total.
My main issue is that when I finish night shift, even if I wear ear plugs I can't sleep longer than 12:30 pm. No probs in waking up at 5:10 am for the morning shift.
Other than that, it's a nice schedule.

^^^^^^^
What's the nuclear waste plant you're talking about? :icon_mrgreen:
Might be inherent, but I'm not sure we're speaking about the same one. ;)
As for me, no nukes are involved in my job. :thumb:

Similar shift patter to what my Air traffic control friends work. They do 2 morning, 2 afternoon, 2 night but then they get 4 days off and run the same 10 day cycle. Also for every hour and half they work they get a half hour break! haha. Love that schedule!

After my wreck, the drugs screwed my sleep cycle up pretty good.  I would get to sleep about 6-7AM and sleep until about 2PM.  I got tired of it and asked the Doc if he could help me.  He prescribed Lunesta and it worked like a charm.

I'm half nocturnal, i think i was destined to be a nocturnal creature but by force of school it wasn't practical, ive always stayed up late and way too late considering having school every morning for the last 14 years. Ever since i finished school though i tend not to go to bed till 3 whether im going out or staying at home il stay up on my own past midnight every night at least. Working night shifts i find a doddle and actually really enjoy it. Working on a farm during the harvest working through every night if the weather is clear i enjoy more than working in the day.

The night is wikid. All the best things happen at night.

i go to work around 230pm and get home around 1130pm. unless i've got some overtime hours. then i may go in as early as 1030am or get home as late as 3am. i didn't have this schedual before i opted to move to the CNC mahining dept. when i worked on the line i went in at 630am and was generally home by 4pm. i miss those daytime hours. being a family man, it seems i hardly see my family except on the weekends since i've moved to 2nd shift. i get home and everyone is sleeping. i get up around 11am or so. roughly 3 1/2-4 hours with the family and it's back to work again. the upside to working 2nd shift is the 40 cent an hour shift premium. not to mention the nice lil raise i got for going from the line to CNC mahining. i love my work, i love what i do, i just can't wait for a first shift machine to become available. then i have to hope nobody else with more seniority wants it. i'm the low man on the totem pole as far as seniority goes.
finally a homeowner!

I worked the night shift for a little over 2 years, not noticing myself how it was making me ill, physically and mentally. When i finally quit, i realized i was feeling better only 1 hour after i did it. It was kinda scary to realize that i'd been sick and didn't even know. Some people can live this way, but doing it for long will start screwing up your body and mind. So if you have to work nights, be sure to keep an eye on your health, and dont keep doing it just because you think you have to. There are more important things in life than a job ;)

^ Knew people who were just like that as well.

Looked like walking corpses and always had nasty attitudes. They would transfer to days and suddenly become likeable people.

Non stop night shifts are not for everyone. I wish I still worked them. Sunlight sucks  :icon_confused:
