Well I wish I could say he was a big, bad Harley guy and I got into a big fist fight and defended my honor but...

...he was a she, she said she had a Sportster for about 6 years and asked to sit on my bike, doh!  I said fine and she takes it off the center stand, I say be careful (cause I know your Sportster doesn't well, sport, a center stand) and before I know it it is going down, down, down.  It didn't hit hard and I'll be honest it has some road scars anyway.  But now my right side blinkers don't work.  Think it is just the bulbs?  Other side works fine but instrument gauge light does not blink either.

Here is the best part though.  Her sister felt so bad she left $140 bucks in an envelope taped to my front door.  Note said, "money for parts to fix bike or buy beer , so sorry for my dumb sister"  I feel bad for her giving me that much and will probably get a set of bulbs off bikebandit and give her the change.

What would you do?    :dunno_white:

Fix the bike first, then call her up and take her out of a date with the rest of the money!

as everyone else said.. fix bike, then take her out!  It's not like you are paying for it anyway

Invite us to the wedding!  ;)

Sorry to hear about your blinkers, but damned glad to hear that they're decent folks. If I were a guy, I'd fix my blinker, then buy some flowers and return the change with the flowers (in person, of course).  :icon_lol:

Real life me (married with kids): Make the repairs myself, and send them both a giftcard to a spa somewhere. Repaying kindness begets kindness. One or both of these two ladies is of a dying breed. Help keep nice people NICE !

Single me (from years ago): Make the repairs myself, sit on the cash for a little while, feel guilty, and sheepishly give the remainder back, with a thank you of some type. Self preservation and karma and all that mess ;)

Either way, I'd get to know them and their friends. Take them on a few of your favorite roads. They did you a favor, pay it back and enjoy the ride.

Whaaaaat ... Houston_GS500 ... these people are in houston ... man, I am surprised. OK fine I shouldn't be, but I have met a lot of insensitive pricks especially to bikers in this area. I'm new to houston.
I also post without looking at anything but the content of the post. Like ... you post asking for something, and I reply, 2 weeks later you post again, I will, without remembering the prior post, just repeat it almost verbatim. Not getting the whole point of you needing a second opinion. To me, if its in the same thread, I'd leave it alone, else, its "all new".
Cool.

I dont think it would be the bulbs, but they are a start...

Its prob. the relay.. they are cheap as well.. about $4 at autozone  :thumb: Its located under the seat on the (right) side of the frame...  :thumb: Mine went bad after a fall in the grass.. no damage at all to the bike but enough force to mess something up in the relay.

and +1 to taking her out  :thumb:

Unless all blinkers are messed up ... Or atleast both sides have some problem, its prolly not relay.
I am betting your connection came loose to 1 T/S. Right rear has my vote.

Great responses all, I will follow your advice.  (What a forum, advice on fixing my bike AND my life. )

So, the consensus is:
1. Fix the bike (connection to 1 T/S, thanks srinath)
2. Give them the change, repay their kindness
3. Marry the girl.
4. Convince Srinath there are actually several nice bikers in Houston.

Cool, got it.

Think about it...

20 years from now you can tell all your friends how you met when her sister knocked over your ride.
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?
