Few Teething Problems

Hey dudes , as u no i picked up a felllow board members 2001 Gs im haiving a few problems

I installed my katana front end , and its soo close that the bars hit the tank in full lock , it didnt happen on the 1996 but its happening now , any ideas how id get round this?

Also , as i removed the Killswitch control , and the choke cable control , the *nubs* the bits which hold it to the bar , arnt there., i did notice there was a lil wobble but i didnt relise that it had been snapped off, am i look at new controls , as i cant use the ones off the 1996 due to the twin throttle cable

It looks awesome , but im sure the bar thing is a mot failure in this country , any help welcomeed ,,

You have clip-ons on the kat front end right? If so, just loosen and rotate the clipons away from the tank.

He has factory clip ons that bolt to the factory top plate.

They also clamp, though.  I put a TL1000S front end on my EX500 and the clip-ons hit the tank.  It was a simple process of unbolting the damn things and moving them out just BARELY enough to allow full movement.

Looks like you could put put a spacer between parts 6 and 7 to move the bars out or move them out and up.  I was looking into raising Kat bars a while back, they were selling cheap and there are no risers on the market I could find.

my bad...but with that kind of height you can't be losing too much of your travel.

Not sure but would you gain anything by sliding the bars that last half inch or so into the clamp might help if it is close to making full lock. :dunno_white:

The 1996 is a bad model example , as the tanks smaller , i didnt have a problem , but it looks increable on the 2001

do u think ill have to buy new controlls as the lil pegs are gone , they must have snapped off

Absolute Rescue

You could probably use some thin rubber under the controls, and just make sure you get the screws tight. They don't really take that much abuse so as long as they don't vibrate around or move when you use the bottons it shouldn't be a problem IMHO.

ah , i just mounted the Stockheadligh agen , and relised how much i like it , proper bandit looke style , i no a few people like the headlight i put on it , well its up for sale , if anyne wants to make a offer .. i payed 120 pounds , and 25 pounds postage from thailand

If the nubs are broken off you can thread a #4-40 socket head cap screw in there and the head of the screw is the same diameter of the hole in the handlebar.
Otherwise just give a few wraps of some electrical tape around the bar and that works as well.

As for the stop... I weld a little larger stop to the stock one.

Drill a small hole in the control and run the screw into the plastic. No need to tap it first. Most of my bikes are done this way.

Thanks  Dgyver , i was thinking it was just a welding job really , well i got a few more months to finish this project , even after what i did to the 1996 , looking at the 01 mhmm just looks perfect

Hows ur Project going , i went looking for the thread and it still looks great , im looking into a underseat at the moment ,

Im getting VERY tempted bu the banana RGV SA , but im not sure i can get the parts made , if it wasnt for you , i wouldnt have my GSX FE fitted so well

Really have not been working on it much. Not much left though... just need to finish the 2nd half of the mold for the solo tail and make a tail (using fiberglass & paint it), then finish wiring the for the speedo and mount the sensor.

But I started assembling a 569 motor for my track bike... need to finish 1 project before starting another.
Common sense in not very common.
