anyone know offhand how much it is approximately?  even a ballpark?

Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Regardless of whether it's an Imp quart or a real quart  ;), I think it's closer to a pint between dipstick marks.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

Why are there two different Quart measurements?

1 quart     = 1.136 litres
1 US quart     = 0.9463 litres

The metric system rules!!!

DEFINITELY!! :thumb:

I searched for "dipstick marks" (no quotes) and came up with the following useful (?) threads:

ah, i didn't realize it could eat that much oil.  and here i thought maybe i was leaking more oil than i thought because i had to add 700mL.
I'll start checking every tank of gas i go through and topping it off.  thanks for the replies!  :thumb:

The GS will use around a quart every thousand miles on long interstate rides.  Slightly less if it's an in-town cruiser.

Checking every tank of gas is a good habit.

The difference between the two marks on the dipstick is a little more than 250 ml.

Obviously oil usage will vary depending on engine condition, type/weight of oil, and riding habits.  90% of my riding is on the interstate commuting to work and averaging 80-85mph for a round trip of about 45 miles a day... my motor only burns AT MOST 1/10 quart every 1,000 miles, if that.  I use Castrol Syntec blend 10W40 oil and I have about 11,000 miles on the bike, FWIW.

im on dino oil right now.  when i change out my oil filter i'll switch to synthetic.  synthetic lasts much longer right?

nazgulnarsil

crap, there's no wal-mart near me.  I want some shell rotella-t synthetic.
i just ordered my oil filter.
I hope it comes with an O-ring.

Less than 1/2 a quart on bikes.
1 qt is for cars.
Cool.
