Ok im having a few issues with my bike.
1.  Wont start unless i drain the bowls or use starting fluid.  Cant use choke or will drown it out and die.
2.  Stutters through powerband till i get around 5,000rpm to 6,  Then starts stuttering again.
3.  Revs high when in neutral or clutch pulled in.  REvs up higher if facing down a hill or you rock/shake the bike.

I believe the problem lies in the carbs but not fully shure.. :dunno_white:  Growing tired of the problem i consulted a friend who is also a mechanic.  He told me either i need to have them readjusted or that i might have lost an o-ring or broken off one of  the vacume caps off of the plastic carb top.   I checked and sure enough i had.  I also took this time to look at the exploded parts diagram in the clymer manual.  It appears that i am also missing the rubber toppers that slide over the vacume tubes..  HOping this is my problem took the tops off and covered the vacume holes with a small piece of plastic.  I then put the tops back on.  Started the bike up and gave it time to warm itself..  I took her out and the stuttering and jerking seemed to have stopped. Although i am still having a problem when i take the load off of the engine it revs up to about 5 ,000 rpms and then slowly drops or stays around that area.  If i shake the bike or am on a downward slope it stays revved up ..  I rode her all the way to ST. Augustine from daytona (60Miles) today  (still have to go back)  On the ride she stutterd a few times if i let off the throttle a little bit at high speeds 70 -80 mph.  Even stuttered a few times while i was rididng at those speeds with steady throttle.

IF anyone can give me some advice as to what the problems could be or what i can do.  Please chime in..

Yeah, definitely something wrong with the carbs. Sounds like it's running wayyyy too rich.

What's the gas mileage you're getting right now?
The Frogurt is also cursed

have you checked your spark plugs yet? what color are they? Light brown or black? When was the last time you changed the plugs? Whats your jetting? Whats your elevation?

No i havent had time to pull the plugs yet.  I did pull them a couple of times when i was having the petcock problems but ha vent checked them since i got that somewhat taken care of.    I put a dyno jet stage 3 in ( i know im going to catch hell for that  but already had them before i joined the site)   My elevation is right at sea level maybe 20 feet higher but i wouldnt push it that far.

:o maybe the float height in incorrect? This could be the reason that draining the bowls seems to help?

Tried a good carb cleaning?  :dunno_white:

Quote3.  Revs high when in neutral or clutch pulled in.  REvs up higher if facing down a hill or you rock/shake the bike.
Could be a result of improperly set idle. Make sure to adjust when the bike is fully warmed. Perhaps this is made worse by dirty carbs?

QuoteAlthough i am still having a problem when i take the load off of the engine it revs up to about 5 ,000 rpms and then slowly drops or stays around that area.
Seems to be another symptom of incorrect idle adjustment.

Again, float height? Very strange that the problem would be slope dependant!  :icon_confused:

Hope you get this sorted out!  :icon_mrgreen:
