Going to work on Wilshire, went through a yellow light and at the last second this guy makes the opposing lefthand turn.

Braked as much as I could for about .7 seconds then bam. Bike went down to the right, I bounced off his car and got up.

Bike is focked. Front forks bent so far the wheel rubs against the engine.

So that's 3 incidents in the last 2 weeks.

1) knockover while parked Friday before last
2) hit and run who I chased and caught this week (still refuses to give insurance info over the phone)
3) total wreck today.

If bad things happen in threes then hopefully that was the last one.

Unluckier than me, while he was giving me a ride to work we passed a guy on the north side of wilshire who was laying flat on the pavement, his black bike was a few feet ahead and north, there were cars stopped all around. A pedestrian had told us there was a fatality four blocks up, I hope this wasn't true.

I need a little advice on regaining transportation.

Any recommendations on bargaining with the salesmen? What APR or monthly payment is reasonable? I stand to make no more than $28k this year. Thanks for input, Ive never bought a new vehicle, but I dont know that in this town I have time to shop around for a used bargain. Any tips appreciated.

As far as transportation, that's all up to you man. If you have cash, look on www.craigslist.org in the motorcycles section, there is ALWAYS something decent for sale. DO NOT DEAL WITH ANYONE THAT WANTS TO SHIP YOU _ANYTHING_ , IT'S A SCAM !!! Only deal in person, clear title blah blah blah.

I see decent sv650's here in tampa for around $3500-$4500.

gs500's can be had around $1000-$3000.

You're likely shaken up from the wreck right now. Give it a few days to wear off before you plunk down ca$h on anything. Cars suck all the time, bikes only suck when you wad em up.

Hope you have some ca$h man, payments suck.

glad your ok. But I'd have to say bad luck would only attribute to the knock over. The others safer more attentive riding and proper documentation would save a lot of heart ache. As far as getting another bike I have krap credit & financed my 04 for $127/month which included riding gear, 5 year warranty &maintainance, gap insurance, low jack, & MSF course ( which the advanced course may be of advantage to you). So yeah you can finance some good deals.

Ehhhh, you can find APC's on ebay pretty frequently, go for one of those.

While it may have been the other drivers fault, I took a risk at a yellow light and yes, I was in a hurry.

slow down a bit, the other driver should be at fault- if you didnt mentioned you sped because that will most likely end up as a 50/50 thing because his insurance can say that he didn't have any reason to believe you weren't going the speed limit and if you were going the speed limit he would of had time to make the turn.  Just wait to see what the insurance does and if they pay up either fix it up and sell it or use the cash to buy a new bike.

Gave recorded statement to other party's ins and he said I should be ok on liability. Even advised to get a rental car, they would take care of it.

If they are at fault...sue! Look up a good lawyer.You could have been killed,make'em pay atleast for a new bike and lost wages. until people learn to look for bikes and tikes make them pay.

Living in LA, i constantly think about the lack of left turn arrows, and the la culture of running red lights to turn left. I tend to slow at intersections. Over the past few weeks ive picked up the habit of glancing at the pedestrian cross walk signals at each intersection to get an idea if the light is about to flip yellow on me.

While i loath honda of hollywood, it is close. I made the trip out to burts mega mall in la-la-land west covina as they gave me a much better rate.. Im too broke to buy anything flat out.

I have seen that same accident twice in the past three months.
Only with the cages and not bikes. Once it happened while I was waiting for the crosswalk. :oBam, right in front of me.
I would search for cheap used.
If you don't have it in savings look for used at the dealers and pay the piper.
Ride that for three years and save up for your dream bike.
Then your insurance will have come back down.
I totalled my bought new, 02GS. in 2004.
I then bought a $1000 83 GPZ and ran the p out of it and ended up falling in love with the ergos and the power but I still never washed it.
Last week, I found a low milage version of the same make and model with perty paint for 2k and I would not trade it for a Duc or any other bike. This one will get washed.

No judge will award compensation on what "could" of happened, the insurance will pay for what the bike is worth and a rental car- hence no loss wages. civil court is pretty pointless in this situation, accidents happen thats why they are called accidents.

make sure to squeeze a new lid out of the insurance too

hehe... new lid is a good reminder. Shoei RF1000 is not cheap.

Yes someone just recommended parting it out to me. Gauges are fine. However gas tank is dimpled on each edge, as is exhaust. What do u think a fair price for a 2004 GS500 F, minus fairings, front end, and random bits would be? Frame should be good too.

I am thinking if they ask for $500 I might make my money back. Dunno.
