I need to replace my rear rotor is has grooves in it. since I am replacing the rear I figured I would replace the front as well.

any suggest on the best places to buy this from or any upgrades besides the cast iron race brand.

Don't install cast iron unless you plan on using it as a race bike.  cast iron will rust if you look at it, and they tend to warp more easily in the wet.
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Yes.They were factory replacements.I still see them from time to time on ebay.Try searching ebay stores. Some times they won't show up in a motorcycle parts search.

I should add that 95 and older Katanas have the same rear wheel and rotor.Just make sure that the katana rotor is a four bolt rotor.

I use ferodo brake pads and have been happy with them

I found a new font disk for $100 on ebay but it looks like it is for the newer models and has the black center instead of gold ,( I prefer the gold) how was the older gs500 front rotors made the gold color, doesnt look like paint.

Those rotors are nice but to pricey for me.I've never used Ferodo pads.As far as the gold on the rotors. If it's not paint,I dunno what it is.My old rotor's gold appears to be flaking.

well if it is paint it was a damn good job from factory lol. I guess I could always get the center powder coated

That'll work and I've seen some guys on here use regular spray paint. They have good results.Cheaper too.
