Just remember, any engine will work, just swap carbs and electrics over to the new engine.

Why?I been told by many that any year GS500 engine will work. The carbs and electrics need to if certain years of engines are used.Have I been giving the wrong info?I am still looking for an engine for my project bike. It's a 90 model that I'm building from the ground up.It has no wiring so engine choice should be wide open.Maybe I use SV1200 engine.  :o

Any GS engine will work, the only problem you will face would be putting a newer, oil-cooled engine into an older bike.  A little time and patience is all it takes to overcome that though.  Just fabricating up some simply brackets.

Then there is the different ignition rotor on the 04+ engines and the lack of a tach drive in the head.
Common sense in not very common.

ehhh, no big deal on the rotor.  Who needs a tach anyway, I can tell you exactly where my bike is at just listening........
