alright so my battery quit recharging so i pulled off the cover to remove the stator and i realized what the problem was, somehow one of the magnets is shredded to peices,  but other than that  how do i pull off the magnet part, that bit nut just keeps spinning even when in gear. i have the bike turn over on its right side  so the oil wont run out.

Yeah you need to to make a puller to get that out. Search for "starwalt's disease" and you will find that you need to buy a slide hammer and thread the end to some specific thread size that I can't remember.  Basically the end of the crank shaft is tapered and the magnet housing is fitted to it, once you remove the bolt that prevents it from coming off then you need to thread the slide hammer into the housing of the magnet and yoink it off.

that sounds confusing heh :dunno_white:

You need an axle bolt and a heavy slider ... I still had trouble on mine. I had to have it welded to it and then knock it loose.
However if yours is in good shape and not jammed on there with years and years of riding, you can get  it off easier. Its gets tighter as you ride it ... more miles = tighter.
Cool.

Sorry it is actually called "goats" syndrome and starwalt has a great post about him getting the rotor magnet off.

Scroll through this post and you will find all the info you need.

Yea Goats has like 100 variations at this point.
Starwalts is one of those where a fragment of the rotor magnet, lodges itself in the starter clutch, and when the bike starts it takes the starter along for the ride cos the clutch never disengages.
Srinath's is where the starter clutch is going from natural causes presumably, and he ignores it as it makes the sharp "tonck" sounds at startup and the vibrations shred the rotor which in turn eats up the coil. Yup, ignore the $25 starter clutch, and lose a $300 - 600 rotor, coil, and heck even the motor if you get all the rotor crap into the oil and the bearings. Mine luckily didn't get that far. But 10 oil changes each with a pickup screen clean in the span of 1500 miles may have helped. Oh yea, mine lost its engagement gear ... the clutch and gear wear together, and too many bite marks on that gear = new starter clutch wont do. Will still make tonck noises.
Cool.

Has anyone come up with a gear puller that will do the same thing.I may have to do this soon myself and don't like the thoughts of using a slide hammer.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

ya well i'm lucky, i have the magnet housing and coils from the first engine that i blew, so i just need to swap them around, all i really need is magnetic housing thing swapped. but just seems like it will take a while to get the one thats messed up off then i'm gonna have to pull it off the other engine and so on...

ok i understand that i need a puller now,  but what i dont know is how to get the bolt off of the shaft that holds the flywheel on. when i try and get it off with a ratchet it just keeps spinning,  like the clutches are slipping. what do i do

if i could still see straight, i'd try to make sense of which way things spin (besides the room now) and suggest a breaker bar and bumping the starter.... but i'm too far gone now.... hooray for al ko haul

It is attached to the crank, so you need to either put it in gear and then stop the rear wheel from turning. Or pull of the right side case cover and stick a penny between the gear that connects the clutch and crank. If you don't stop the crank from spinning then you will just keep spinning the motor over.

Check out starwalts post that I put up before, he talks about the same issue, see how he solved it.

If you throw it into 6th gear and ensure the spark plugs are still in, the compression will negate the crank from moving.

alright  thanks guys, it came off easy with an impact wrench.  so what size slide hammer or flywheel puller should i get?

oh ya i read that thanks man.  but it just seems like to much work to try and make a tool. i couldnt find anything about a fly wheel puller or what size in that thread.

coll0412

The thread in the rotor is M14X1.5

so you need to thread something with M14X1.5 into and then yoink on it. You may find an adapter that will attached to a slide hammer, but you still need a slide hammer.
