When do you think you will be done with it? I want to get this done as I don't know if the guy I got my bike from ever did his valves.

I am still to get the kit from seamax. The expected time for arrival at my place is this weekend. If it gets here in time I will try to do it over this weekend itself, else the next one.

As far as I know this is the current list.

1. Raydr
2. spcterry
3. Teek (not sure)
4. gmark

spc

I'll get it done the closest weekend to when I get it.  I'm gonna need a good solid day to do this crap.............got like 4 times as many valves to do......... :icon_confused:

lewismug

Just purchased an '02 GS500 with 5,103 miles on the odometer.  I guess I need to throw my name in the hat for the kit as well if that's alright since I don't think it's ever been done on this bike.

spc

gimme a few days to make sure everything goes through, but most likely I won't be needing the kit.....

spc

OK, don't need the kit. I bought the 'recommended' tools and one of these days might tackle this job.

Take me off the list.

nikux

Wow! valve adjustment rocks. All the low rpm issues are gone. Never been this smooth. Feel like a new energy... :2guns:
Will go for a test ride tomm. But I think I wont be needing the kit, the list I think is,

1. Raydr
2. Teek (not sure)
3. gmark

So Raydr, if you need the kit pm me your address. I should get it out by monday if everything goes right with the test ride tomm.

nikux

Also regarding the kit, I added a 2.35 shim to it :). Feels good.

Also I think the 0.0381 gauge has lived it life. Its bent at many places (I got it this way, still managed somehow). The 0.05 can also be replaced. Are these available separately?

If they are expensive, how about collecting $5 each from ppl on who use it next (incl. me). May be if everyone who uses the kit, adds $5 to the kit, then the west coast kit can also be resurrected.

Teek

Hi nikux, I just PM'd you yes, I could use it, also any advice re: what it needs and any ideas on the best places to get the supplies if I need to add to the kit (like the gauges), my LBS is pretty sucky on just about everything, I can't even get jets. I might be stuck using it a week or 2, I'll need my buddy's help for a day, maybe this Sunday, he's free.

Anyone else who's used it recently, any advice, please chime in, thanks!

Okay, I have the kit, it came today, (thanks nikux!) there is no magnetic tool    :dunno_white:   but there are tweezers.  I may check my LHS for a magnetic tool to grab the shims.

Nikux added $5. towards a new West Coast kit, great idea!

I ordered two sets of Bikemaster feeler gauges from Bike Bandit, one for me one for the kit, but they are backordered. The specs are
"Dual marked 0.03mm/0.001" to 1mm/0.040". 4" long taper blades, hardened and polished."
I'm trying to borrow a different set for over the weekend, the 0.0381 is fairly creased. The 4" tapered blades got great reviews from people adjusting their valves, hopefully I get them before the kit goes back out, if not I can mail them to whoever gets it next.

I'll post back when the kit is ready to go again.

Oh, and as a XX type person, I ditched the super grody Ziplock bag and put everything in a nice clean new one. Yeeechhh!   ;)

It looks like you are ON it!   ;)

You are after gmark. I'll post here and on the other thread when I'm done. It's the East coast kit that we on the West coast are borrowing, we are also donating $5 or whatever you can add cash wise to the kit to raise the funds to replace the West Coast kit. More is always better.   8)
The kit will be mailed to you, you then pay to ship it to the next person. Priority mail is best; it's quickest and safest.

I have replaced the worn feeler gauges and will likely throw in the little pocket magnet I got as well, the tweezers make me nervous.

In the meantime you can check out Kerry's awesome step by step video, a copy of which is included in the kit.

Okay, I did my valves Sunday, rode the bike today to test it, it runs fine but I have a valve cover leak so have to yank it again. I did the valves at 7,835k, 2 were okay, one was close to tight, one was tight. I had to get shims from a dealer who lent me their shim box over the weekend, so I gave them 3 excess shims (all over 2.70 which the kit has tons of) and a 12 pack of Rolling Rock, and put my 2.55 and a 2.45 in, also from their kit a 2.40 and a 2.35, (something like that) so those of you who like me couldn't use any of the larger shims have some options.   :icon_mrgreen:

So basically I swapped even with everyone, because I also replaced the test shim (2.15) in the kit with one from the dealer who had 4 that has the #s on it so you all can tell it's the TEST shim. From what I've read though some people might need it..

I replaced the feeler gauges (the ones I found and ordered made by Bike Master at Chapparal are probably better, I think they have a smaller gauge but they're on backorder), put my brand new magnet tool in because it's MUCH better than the tweezers, and put it all in a new box. Since I added smaller shims and put in $11 worth of tools I'm not adding $5 too. BUT I think everyone else should.  8)

gmark, I'll PM you when it's in the mail, it will probably be tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone who put this kit together, I am very grateful!   :thumb:

gmark is too busy right now, so suzukimx4789 is next on the list.

gmark may be next after him. I think that Raydr wasn't heard back from? And I see that lewismug is in line as well.

The kit will be on it's way as soon as I hear back from suzukimx4789.

Don't let my defective gasket issue worry anyone, what I learned was if it seems it's really too big, it probably is. The second one went on much better.  I haven't ridden the bike yet, the carbs are off for a rejet, but it looks like it will be okay. I don't have that nagging suspicion in the back of my head!    ;)

So what I see on the 2 lists is

suzukimx4789
lewismug, who maybe got accidentally skipped over

I'm sending the kit out to suzukimx4789 tomorrow, and I decided to kick in $5 cash too as well as the tools. So there's $10. cash towards a new West coast kit, as the tools in this set are fine, though the allen wrench for the valve cover is getting worn. I used one of my own.
