Throttle doesn't idle, revs to 4000rpm

Hey, I just had my engine rebuilt to fix the problem with valve delamination. Completely new parts installed. However, when I was test riding it this weekend, the throttle wouldn't settle down and idle properly. At intersections, it would scream up to 4000rpm instead of settling down to 1200rpm. When I started up the bike and was manipulating the choke, I had no problems but about 10 minutes into the test ride, I encountered this problem. The choke was completely off when I was riding so it's not the control at the handlebar. Any suggestions?

Whoops, just did a search and found a few threads on this topic. Nevermind this post!

Glad you found some related threads. I hope you found a couple that I posted; I solved the problem simply by adjusting the idle speed when the bike was properly warmed up (I pulled over in the middle of a ride and did this).

Also one time my choke stuck.

I turned it off but the bike keeped revving high. Check this too.

my bike does the same thing. I just bump the clutch enough to put some pull on it and the rpms fall and stay down. or adjust the idle down, but then i have to adjust it back up next time i ride. it is anoying on turns and the engine surges at 3000 to 3500 with the throttle closed. my bike only does it when it is warmed up. or after my commute (40 miles). I am going to pull the carbs off next week to rejet. while i am in there i am going to look at the choke and see if something is sticking.

Same here. A valve adjustment stopped it for a little while. But now it's back and so are the bad valve clearances.
