I have a semi upgraded Emachine and wanna do a lil more. I have read all the pros and cons of these brand CPU most cheap parts have been removed and upgraded inluding the power supply,Ram and Pci x16 video card. Now I want to getter more cpu speed so would like to upgrade my AMD Sempron 3800 to a AMD athlon 64 4000. Can I do this with out changing the mother board? These are my stock specs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883114055
the socket for the processor is an AM2  these are the specs of what I wanna put in it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103868
The Model for my CPu is T3636 in case you need to find more specs

if both are am2 you should be able to do that. BUT lemme ask you this, see if your mobo will support x2 ( dual core cpus) trust me on that. dual core ( or more) is much better :thumb:

I dont know if I can run dual onthis board but i'll look into it. Im goint to be running my recording studio off my CPU and a bigger and faster processor will help alot. So far I havnt had any dropout or serious problems(which is shocking coming from vista) all my issues have been driver errors or human error. thanks guys. If I can get someone to change yamas should to a for shure than ill get it asap. and Ill check into the dual core.

AMD................already massively dated.................seriously, AMD wins Gvt contracts because they produce cheap shaZam! fast, not because they produce good shaZam!.  Go with the people who know what they're doing...........intel, after all they did get the idea from Mac...........

yamahonkawazuki

meh i think mac got the idea from intel lol. but amd is still a good cpu, etc etc etc

Interesting, seeing as the G5/woodcrest dual core was on the market before the intel ones and went off the market when intel started making dual cores...........intel bought the rights to the tech.

Not looking to get a motherboard bundle just the processor my mother boards is decent including the chipset that came with. I have already got rid of most of the stock parts from the tower so the issues that come with Emachines are not going to be an issue for me. and spending between 40-80 sounds good to me.

I'll tell you what the FX-62 that is in my budget gaming rig is solid, I believe you get way more bang for your buck with AMD as long as you don't buy the cheapy old CPUs.

I don't keep up with the little machines anymore like I used to but for quite a while if you were doing graphics intensive work on a PC platform like gaming the AMD traditionally smoked the Intel processors.

I have a dual core 64bit AMD in my XP box at home.

Go IBM.... Big Iron processor power, Power6 baby....

64 bit since the 90's :icon_mrgreen:
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

I'm going to stay away from the ppc/intel/amd/sparc fight. I'd suggest you forget about upgrading bits at a time, and build new. I don't really see a need for 64b, unless your audio applications are actually built for it, and ALL OF YOUR DRIVERS WORK FLAWLESSLY in whatever operating system you'll be using.

Sure, a quad core would be great, but do you really need those cores, or just a really snappy buss and RAID setup to make sure you catch every note ?

Should your system be isolated from the PSU, fans, etc and be liquid cooled for noise reduction ?

Still some things that need answering, and asking for that matter. AMD/Intel/whoever has little to do with things.

:)

agreed. if anything try to find a decent am2 ( if made) opteron cpu . things can take a shaZam! ton of abuse. and ( if desired can be overclocked really well. and are cheap second hand ( or even new )

some nice ones on ebay btw   http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=opteron+am2&category0=

As far as running 64 bit my applications work great with it, being able to mix in 64 bit is nice. Having a dual core will cause me less dropouts and less lag in my program the more plugins I use the worst it will get. my sound card will work great with a dual core 64bit its an E-MU 0404.

mmm, i was cruising around tigerdirect.com, and a few others- looks like it's time for a new mobo and cpu. if you can swing the cost, why not go quad core ? the buss speed is awesome on the quads also.

keep us posted how it turns out. :D
