Hello everyone, I'm new to this site. I posted a hello to everyone, but got zero replies But i'm not discouraged, i'm sure this place isn't tooooo unfriendly to newbies. So I had the same starvation problem I'm sure we all have had, so I used JB weld to close off the vacuum holes, but somehow in the process I lost that damn spring. So does anyone know if it would work without it? And yes, I did search this, but as far as I can tell, I am the only one to lose it Thanks in advance.

Sorry that you feel unwelcome.I am not a 100% sure but I think the spring helps hold tension on the part that has to be JB Weld shut.Read through this may help you out. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=19363.0

 If you JB welded the vaccum line hole then you do not need the spring, you also do not need the rubber part in the center you can cut it and use it just as a gasket to keep it from leaking

It has been a while since I had changed the petcock to become the manulal fuel slector switch, but
it seems that the spring keeps the center plastic fuel selector piece sitted tightly in the hole. Perhaps, without the stpring it may have some vertical play and if travelled upwards will cause the fuel pathway holes to be misaligned. If that happens, the fuel flow may be restricted. I am not sure though.

This was my thinking in my post.I just didn't know how to word it so it made sense.

I should clarify the 04-08 petcock doesn't need the spring if your using prime.
