not DOT-approved

i have been looking at turn siganl and all the ones i like are not DOT approved what exactly does this mean i know your helmet should be DOT approved are the siganl that are not approved ok to have or are they against the law in CA probably a dumb question but im new to all this

Not dot approved could mean that they are not up to spec or simply that the manufacture doesn't want to spend time getting them approved. Technically they ARE against the law to have but most of the time you dont get bothered unless you deserve it haha.

as far as the law goes, ya. the DOT stamp (if it's authentic) means it's passed a few tests for visibility, reliability and stuff. i've seen non-DOT signals (LED) that were complete trash, but looked really cool. most annoying thing to me is following some sport bike jackoff that has crappy LED signals that won't light up a coke can.

I've ran non DOT lights and signals for years an the only time I've had problems is when one is burnt out.

I know K&S do some DOT approved after market signals.

They do some DOT approved, mini stalk indicators with 21W Halogen bulbs which look good and are damn bright!

only time youll have an issue is if the LEO examines your bike WITH a FINE TOOTH COMB  :o, which rarely happens
