Are you going to get a little trailer for your toolbox so you have *some* of the tools required to do a valve adjustment?

I'll buck the trend and say it's fugly, but it'll probably get you laid at least twice a week.   :icon_razz:
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

I'm not a huge fan of the stock fairings on it.  This one is charcoal grey though so there's no color issue, and the tail is a solo race tail.
Valve adjustment, yeah not looking forward to it but at least there's only 4 of em.  Parts don't seem to be a big issue and the reviews of the bike say it is one of the more reliable Duc's of the era.  As far as the getting laid twice a week, I won't complain..........but pretty much any authentic Italian machine can produce those results.

ok, looks like the trade is on!!!! Dude, Im gettin a Duc!!!!

I feel bad for you.

Good luck getting parts  :thumb:
This is actually what I was wondering about myself - how much more difficult are repairs or finding parts for a Ducati vs. a GS 500?  I really like how durable and common the GS is, parts-wise.

spc

I'll put it simply, the valve train is designed in a way most mechanics will refuse to touch it and the nearest dealership is 100 miles away.
On the other hand, this thing is sexy as all hell

how is that better than a 97-2000 GSXR600
ya start off loosing 30-40 HP and how is the suspension better?
what does the front have preload and compression....no rebound?

when were the timing belts last changed?

and like a GS it's a 15 yo design.

looks purdy though

How is the suspension better??  Aside from it's been completely re-worked??  Bike doesn't even have 5k miles on it so no timing belt change yet.  It comes with a new one though.  It's damn purdy, and I was kinda missing having a twin.

spc

I should elaborate a little.  The guy has a stack of receipts from when the bike was originally purchased for work done to track prep the bike.  He hasn't sorted through them and really hasn't ridden it so he has no idea of what is done power wise aside from the obvious Termi exhaust and a PCIII.
You should know as well as I that a bike is all about what makes you happy.  I am more than willing to lose the horsepower and top end for a Duc.  On the other hand, it should accelerate pretty similarly as the torque numbers aren't that far off.  I'm sure you also know as well as I that this engine has a good deal of potential.  I've seen dyno's of it running almost 80hp with just a good map and porting the heads

werase643

a friggin Duck is about the only bike i didn't make $ on       or at least get my $ back on

i had a early 90's 900 CR

it is all about what you like...but you also said you wanted a 750 engine in the 600 for more power.....so i thought i'd give you a reality check that the duck is not more power
no matter how many cubic $ you throw at it
the torque is impressive though

the gix and the duc are in completely different leagues...you don't buy them to do the same thing.  In my ideal garage I'd have one of each.  If I could only have one?  Duc, hands down.  There are better investment bikes out there but hell if I was looking for investment bikes I'd be looking for old KZ's rotting in people's fields...not an ex track bike.

spc

Power, yeah, I've kinda laid off the idea.  I don't really need it.  The Duc will still do 130 and that's more than enough to get me in trouble.  I spoke to the guy tonight trying to figure out the exact place we're going to trade off.  He said the few times he'd ridden it the wheel was begging to come up off the ground :icon_rolleyes:

The fucker actually said he didn't like how it sounded :o :dunno_white:  Who the f%$k doesn't like the sound of Duc??  Said he prefers the whine of an inline 4. :icon_confused:

spc

Hell they aren't bad investement bikes, KBB on the damn thing is over 5k............for a 7 year old bike.

I'm going insane waiting for saturday, I just may ride it back despite not having lights :icon_rolleyes:

bettingpython

Some people don't like the sound of twins :icon_rolleyes: I am one of those :o

Of course even the harley guys wince just a little when I slam up against the blow up box.

My bike's kinda scary sounding when it get's up over 8k, basically where I keep it most of the time. :icon_twisted:
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

spc

I've heard a few 954 and they sound mean as hell, not like a 600 whining.
I love the sound of a sport twin, don't particularly care for the cruiser twins.  I pee a little everytime I see an RC51 or TLR or Duc   shaZam!, I might need to invest in diapers or something   :o

spc

OK, WTF is the fuss about??  I've now read several write ups on the Duc board for both adjusting desmo valves and checking belt tension.  Neither appear all that difficult, just ......... different.  The preferred method of checking belt tension over there appears to be downloading a tuning program and basing tension of the frequency given from a pluck. :cookoo:

ben2go

Yep,that's eyetalian engine eering at it's best.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

spc

awww hell the valves don't look bad at all ;)  Just a quick feeler in the opener, closer and shim check.
They've linked me to a ton of how-to videos on the subject :thumb:
