Anyone ever organize a ride for the ACS?

I was thinking of organizing a fund raiser ride for the American Cancer Society.  I started out with the idea of a breast cancer ride, so I emailed them and asked if there was such a thing in MA or New England.  There wasn't.  Then some other things came into play, so now I am thinking of just doing it for whole thing.  The whole kit and kaboodle so to speak!

I can't think of anyone who has not been touched by cancer in one way or another.  Right now there is a good chance the one of the kids I babysat (they were like my own) has cancer.  She is all of 15.  We are waiting on the biopsy results.  She is the one that will REALLY make me do this, but I need to know where to start.

Let me know if you guys have some ideas.  I would appreciate it.  I am thinking for next summer.

Thanks!

Sorry to hear about the kid. Hopefully the lab will have some good news for everyone.

My father has been batteling with cancer for quite a few years now. I have thought of doing similar things in the past but never quite brought them to fruition. The ACS website does have vast amount of information about organizing events.

Just remember, LOTS of fliers in ALL the bike shops. Cancer and charity don't care if you ride a Harley or an import.

I suggest you look for a bigger bike board and ask them.  Maybe sportbikes.net or others that people here can suggest.  Some board with a huge amount of readers -maybe even a moto mag board (doesn't cycle world have a forum?).

Well sorry I can't help but if you do a ride be sore to post it here and every other cycle forum you can find
There is more to this site than a message board.  Check out http://www.gstwin.com

Yeah I figure plaster it everwhere... but anyone can help.. things like a route.. what are the rides generally in length?  I woulld think you would want the local police in the ride area to know about the event.  And so forth.  I will research the ACS site for other events, make a list and start checking off the list items as I go.

I publish a regional motorsports magazine down here in Virginia. When the time comes I'd be happy to publish a press release. Any chance of making it a longer ride?! Depending on when it is and what commitments I have here, I may take a ride to Mass to join you. I owe John a beer anyhow.

Hmmmm sounds like maybe someday this will have to become a "National" ride...across country or something.

I promise I am doing this!  It will be in the summer...  It would be awesome to have folks come from other places other than New England.

yamahonkawazuki- that is horrible.     I am soooo sorry!  It's weird actually, I was telling Cam22 about how there are sooo many folks in my parent neighborhood that are being diagnosed with cancer.  My mother and 2 other neighbors were all diagnosed with breast cancer in the same 6 month period.  Then a 7 year old boy who just moved to PA was diagnosed with a brain tumor that they can't do anything for.  Now this!  Makes a person wonder.  For those in MA "Woburn" comes to mind.  EEK!

Thanks everyone!
