Considering new bike....suggestions?

i'm considering upgrading to a larger bike with more power and so on....I own a 2006 gs500f and am looking for the same sporty kind of look, but the insurance kinda plays a factor here.  for example i got quoted for all the middleweights from all the popular companies and there wasnt one under $10000 for me since i am a younger rider...well actually every bike but the triumph daytona 675 it had a reasonable quote for it

the bikes im considering right now are the triumph daytona 675 and the suzuki sv650s but i'm not sure how either of these bikes handle/perform etc. could anyone with past experience with one or both of these bikes help me out and fill me in on what they r like, and any other suggestions for a larger bike, besides the two listed, that wont be a killer on insurance?

those are not what you want. those are squid bikes. the ridability of a r6 in traffic compared to a sv650 is a real shame. torque at the bottom is better than a little more HP at 14,000 rpm.

get an sv650 with or without the extra "S". i like the non faired versions for looks, but it's the same bike. the sv will be much cheaper for parts when you foo bar something, and it's less of a temptation to bike thieves.

read reviews and comparisons, and most importantly, sit on them, ride them if you can. forget about the looks, that only matters when it's parked.

enjoy !

What are "squid bikes"?

squid:  person (particularly young) who is completely inexperienced with riding who goes out and buys a sport performance bike as their first bike, doesn't consider the danger in that decision and who does not appreciate the ride (sorry im venting...a whole bunch of kids at my school just got these exact same bikes as their first and it really annoys me)

thus a squid bike could be anything from a 600 RR or gixxer to a zx10r.

i ride an '04 gs right now and i am pretty positive my next bike will be an sv650 because of the great reviews it has gotten both in buyer's guides and from what i've heard from dealers

p.s. get the naked version  :thumb:

there is no such thing as a squid bike only squid riders...being a squid you would not know that, people talk about you not to you  ;)

Because a squid is an immature octopus and young immature riders have eight very long arms?

The Daytona has the look.Don't know about the price of parts for it...but I'd buy it. You could look up custom GS500's on the net. There are some really sweet rides out there.
I just got through repainting and up grading my GS..Pictures soon..Best of all even with the upgrades I've just got less than two grand in her.
That leaves more money left over at the end of the month for riding! Best of all it's paid for.Belive me gas isn't going back down and I have friends that tell me gas will be 4.00 by July if not sooner.5.00 by September and thats if the Middle East doesn't go up like a Roman candle!! :o If that happens gas could be 7.00 gal almost overnight!! ;)
Well, either you're part of the problem, part of the solution,...
