Regulars may have seen my futile search for a cheap lunchbox in the UK lead me to opting for the knockoff Pods. The wiki says to keep them oiled regularly, can i just douse them in WD-40 or do i need to use 'super duper ultra fancy' air filter oil?

wd-40 is not an oil. it's a water displacement formula, hence "wd-40".

you want to use  a kit like k&n's, it has cleaners that won't kill your paper/fiber, and it's dead simple. i bought a kit over 20,000 miles ago, and it still has plenty left. i usually clean the lunchbox every oil change, if i remember.

or

every time i need to pull the carbs, which is often :)

If they are paper, don't oil them. They will fall apart. If they are cotton or foam use some light machine oil or motor oil.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Air filter "oil" is a special high-tack coating.  It feels like the stuff used in mouse glue traps and stays sticky for a very long time.  K&N makes a cleaning and oiling kit, but it doesn't sound like you can get that over there either.  Your local auto parts store may have something similar, it's worth a try.
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?
