Well after much thinking I decided to try out my clubman handlebars.

Ill spare you the technote tonight, if anyone wants to know how to do it, I'll put it on wikli this weekend.
Here is the final result... yes its inverted, I wanted to have the handlebars closer to me.
only snag I got was that the upper bolt of the master cylinder snapped and I had to replace it and bleed the brakes as I tried to get the broken bolt out but it was stuck , and I had a brand new spare handy.

Nice work!  :thumb:

All your cables and everything reach fine? What kind of bar ends are those?

wow that is a nice lawn mower oh and i guess the bars look good too :thumb: no those bars seriously look good any issues with touching when you are turning?

My GS had clubmans mounted the same way when I got it... it was murder on my wrists.  I'd opt for a set of standard bars with the same rise but a more natural angle to them instead of clubmans, your arms will thank you.

no not really, as you can barely see in the picture I have a 1" raise on the bar itself (double stack OEM bra holders) so it doesn't catch on anything.

Tell you what  the handling is different, the wrists are a little tired after I lost my engine oil cap as I got on the highway, oil spilling all over the side of the bike, wetting through mesh pants, jeans, socks, and I don't know if my leather riding boots are ruined yet (too tired to care).. I pushed the bike 3 miles back to a gas station, put 2 quarts of rotella 15w40 in it, inverted an oil bottle blocking the hole in the engine case from the missing OEM oil dipstick, and keeping it under 3500rpm, I rode back home.
so "tank touching".... sorry I did not notice.

It handle differently that is for sure, less pressure required on  the handle bar to lean out (NICE !) in a curve compared to the OEM handle bars. The way it set up, the handle bar can touch the gas tank but that is at full-full deadlock on the front wheel, and I NEVER had to even come close to that to turn anytime, not even when parked, so I ain't worried about it.

yes I notice a little vibration persisting in the wrist as I rode today, I am thinking of lifting the angle a bit from where they stand now, I am hopping that will be enough, I still have the OEM bars, which now (in case I change back) are going to get a "brushing" from my wheels (forget the name, small electrical engine with a grinding wheel on one side and a metallic brush on the other on a stand) and once I clean it out, it goes straight to my powdercoating guy and it will the same color as the bike :) not black

unfortunately, for the Gs , there isn't much choices, I saw a set more to my liking, but 72 English pounds for handlebars ...?? common now this is a GS500 we talking about, not a racetrack ready gixxer or zx-14 or something of the like.... why is everything for the GS so dang expensive now ?

Patrick,
How did you lose your dipstick?!
That sucks, glad you made it home. :thumb:

As for the bars, very nice job but I still keep loving stock bars. Gotta love my upright position. :icon_mrgreen:
