Hi, my name is Aaron, and I'm from Chicagoland suburbia.
I bought my first bike last night, which is a 2002 GS500. I'm pretty excited.
Just thought I'd introduce myself as I'll probably be spending a lot of time on this forum.
Check out some pictures of it. http://aaronjosephward.googlepages.com/2002gs500e
PS any recommendations on bike covers for the GS500?

Welcome to the board Aaron and nice looking bike! (Looks identical to mine!)  That black and silver really looks good together doesn't it?!  I have no recommendations for a good cover, but I'm sure someone will chime in shortly and give you some recommendations!

Bike is very nice looking! In great shape for a 2002, I hope your not lthinking of storing it outside with a cover, leave it inside if you can. For the two monthes I had to let sleep utside I used a walmart cover, worked for its intended use, just to hold me over till I bought a house with a garage. Good luck with the bike!

Welcome.Any cheap cover is good if you're keeping the ole gurl inside. If you're using the cover for outside, spend the money on a good one.Make sure it's UV safe, breathable, and has a soft lining. The GS is prone to heavy rusting so breathabilty is a must.A soft lining will protect the shine parts and paint.UV safe will keep it from rotting because of the sun shining on it.Hope this helps explain things.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

What's up man.  I have the same bike and will be in west Chicago soon.   :thumb:

I bought a cover made by Dry Rider, I paid $60 for it a couple years ago.  I use it when I ride long distance and can't keep my bike indoors or have to keep the bike outside for a while, it breathes well and its headed into its third season.  I bought it at a bike shop, but here's a pic and info.

Welcome, I did the same last month, and I'm so enjoying commuting on two wheels.

Welcome aboard, man.  I'm a new rider and also live in the Chicagoland area (Naperville to be exact).  I don't know if you've ridden the GS yet but it's an outstanding bike and is totally addictive.  Where do you live?  Maybe we can get out and ride some time.

Hey, time for an update.
I live in Lombard, IL and would be up for riding with others.
I don't have insurance yet; waiting for tomorrow when the insurance man is back, and the bike is not registered yet; waiting for a day this week during lunch to go get some plates for it.
I added more pictures of the bike at my house and also a video of revving it up, and yes it will be sitting outside :-( for the summer so I will be investing in a sweet bike cover for it, thank you guys for your suggestions.
I bought the bike to learn on, as my previous motorcycle riding experience consists of the MSF class on a Yamaha TW200 and a 15 minute test drive of a CBR600, which almost scared me away from riding. I had a friend ride it home from where I bought it from, but I hopped on for a little bit last night and it was a blast. I rode around my subdivision today and loved it. I'm excitied to get out and ride this summer.
Also, no i don't keep the key in it. LOL. That was just when I was buying it.
