So I got the news my loser mayor actually did something smart and is allowing motorcycles to legally have accent lighting in my state after June 1st. :thumb: The lights can not be blue or red and can not flash  :bs: ... oh well I still have plenty of options. I was wondering if anyone has worked with accent lighting or anything on their gs. I am very interested in suiting mine up but I am not sure where to began and am wondering if I can get any direction or advice. I looked around the threads and didnt really see this topic brought up. If anyone has any pictures of a gs with accent lighting I would trade you my right nut...  :icon_rolleyes: maybe not but I really want to see what other people have done.

On a second note I am new around here. I am making the purchase of a 2000 gs500e over the next week and am extremely excited to ride it

The GS charging system is very basic and weak.Lighting can be done using LED's or something that doesn't require much power.I would keep the amperage very low.Remember the charging system doesn't put out a good charge until the engine is around 3000 to 3500 rpm.Mine tested at 4200 rpm,but I had some issues with corrosion on the wiring.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Won't you have legal problems any time you want to ride the bike out of the city?

reissue

well what I was hoping for was some type of lighting that I can turn off if need be. and I planned to use LED's.

:dunno_white: You say your Mayor is allowing Lights in your state? ??? What state lets city Mayors make state laws?

shaZam! Im sorry. He was the mayor of the city but now he is the governor of the state. I was just so used to hearing mayor in front of his name

I will tackle this project at the end of may. I will post a how to after I am done. If I keep the gs that is.. :)

I would be happy to see what you come up with. I am probably going to collaborate with some friends over the next month and finish it before june 1st... i just wont turn them on until then.

well i bought one of those motorcycle LED kits and lit the bike (more like the ground) with something like 48 LEDs. Came with a switch that i put near the petcock. Heres a pic from when i first did it but since then i moved one of the lights to light up the rear shock. I also have a nice bright LED tail light and LED rings on my dual headlights. I have more of a problem being seen at day then at night.

I think that cruisers look kinda cool w/ all the chrome reflecting the lights. There are tons around here w/ lights on em. however I think on the GS it may be a little much. If done in moderation and the right colors and placement it could be kinda cool  :thumb: let us know how it goes  :thumb:

yeah i wanted to stay subtle. I was thinking of lighting up the engine a little and maybe near the tires. I dont want to over do it I agree it would probably look bad if I did. I will start the project when i get time over the next few weeks and will post pictures. Thanks for posting the picture it helps give me an idea. I was actually considering white but I am not 100% sure. My gs is black and the state says I cant use blue or red so I need to find a decent color that wont clash too much with the bike... maybe green?

and please do post the headlight picture!

heres the dual headlights: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=39562.msg444296#msg444296

yes the rings are blue but shhh dont tell anyone, and i don't think florida allows accent lights or maybe the laws are just very specific, but none of the LEO have a problem with them and theyre white, so its not a biggy.

I wasnt going for a christmas tree so much as a light glow on the engine and maybe the tires. I guess its hard to explain what I have pictured in my head. Ill be sure to share once I get a chance to pull something together.

I am going the same way, but blue is allowed in texas (grin) so blue it will be
I bought for 50$ the electropods from ebay. looks like an easy install

I got it from this seller, delivery was very fast : http://stores.ebay.com/ledsbikelights
this is the kit I bought. I will be lighting the rear/front  wheel wells, and under body. I may use 2 pods to light the engine, but I am only adding these for "added visibility at night"
comes with a on/off switch I beleive can fit on the right hand controls

The electropods are ive seen a few people with them they are basically a peel and stick then wire togather. the other led kits you get for like 15 bucks suck cause all they are is a bunch of individual leds and some wire what a pain to wire all that. The electropods come with everythign you need and they sell a remote control thing you can get for them. They really are the best way to IMO
