I need some advice on how to remove the stock pilot jets from my 90' carb with out striping them. I have cleaned them very well and have sprayed the pilot jet w/ WD40 and have let them set for the night. Secondly, is there any makings on the the main and pilot jets to identify their size?? Are you cleaning the carb or re-jetting it?  I use a skinny snap-on screwdriver that fits perfect the the jet.  there should be a number on the side or top of the jet to ID it.  when you go to put the jet back in make sure not to over tighten it other wise you will have this problem again, just a hair past snug

Make sure there is absolutely no fuel in the carb.Put it in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes on the lowest bake setting.The aluminum usually expands before the brass jet.The flat head screw driver I use is for electronics with a large handle to fit your hand.Use a flash light and make sure the blade slides all the way into the jet's slot.Oh and flush out the WD-40 before heating.

how can you own a hair dryer, but not an oven ?

i was just thinking about using a jewelry sonic cleaner before trying to remove the jet..

Thank you everyone for their replies !! I am cleaning the carb in anticipation of re-jetting them. I have a hair drier and a craftsman heat gun that I can use to heat up the carb. I will make sure that i clean out the WD- 40 before I warm them up.  -- JIM

Rejetting - lose the freaking pilots, no big deal, you'd drop in 40's anyway. The pilots usually cannot ever be reused too, even if someone has 40 pilots in, if they dont tell me, and I get them out and seemingly they came out without hassle, I still dont reuse them. The thing is far too frail for you to reliably remove it and reinatall it. Anyway, the hole in the thing is just about the right size for the smallest easy out. But if you're trying to remove it, just buy the right screw driver for it and try it.
