How long do oil filters last? I've been going through 2 3000 mile oil change intervals with them, that's a total of 6000 miles. How many miles do you guys go through with them? From what it looks like, these filters are much larger than standard motorcycle can filters. With that much area it seems we could go much further with the filter before it clogs.

Im no expert but Im pretty sure you replace the oil filter every change. Its a 4 dollar part.

I replace mine with every oil change.2ooo to 4ooo miles.Cheap insurance for my engine.I go by the look and smell of my oil as to when I change it.When it get's dark in color, not black, and starts to smell burnt,I change it.When I commute I can go 4ooo miles. When I run the mountains frequently I change it around 25oo miles.Just my method.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

Your approach sounds similar to gsJack's: every other oil change (5000 miles total)

Personally, I change mine every oil change (5000km = 3000 mi)

I was changing oil + filter every 3,000 or so, but after reading gsjack's comments about it, and knowing his long running bikes, i've changed to filter every OTHER change. So, every 2500 miles, oil gets changed, unless it's still clear. And every 5000 miles, filter + oil gets changed, unless it's still clear.

I figured as much especially since the oil filters come with two o rings.

That's why I mentioned gsJack's approach before my own. I figured he'd be the undisputed authority on best practices!  :thumb:

I change mine every other month, but I change oil once a month.
PS: I ride 500 Miles a week for commuting...

Maybe a little anal, but whats a couple of buck a month to save my engine. ?
