quick jetting question

I'm pretty sure I've totally confused myself between my days jetting R6's and my days jetting GS's...  :cookoo:

SO, I've got an older GS-E, in Atlanta, with a Yosh pipe and a totally open K&N filter (its a large oval that totally replaces the airbox, with two holes in it that fit on the carbs).

Carb settings are main's 125, needle in the middle notch, floats stock height, a/f screws 2.5 turns out...

Issue is that once warmed up the idle hangs like crazy... if I load the motor (slowly let the clutch out while on the brakes) it comes back down and stays down, otherwise it just hangs...

I *think* I need to turn the mixture screws out, probably alot... but I've confused myself and keep second guessing what course of action I need to take  :dunno_white:

Help!

What middle notch in the needle ???
Anyway if stock needles ... use 150's ... make sure float height is set to stock ... top of float bowl ...
Cool.

Sorry, Factory Pro jet kit... dang I thought I covered everything too lol...

The Buddha

Ooooooh factory ... niiiiiiiice ... OK ... the rumour I heard several years ago is ... Factory provided 145 mains with their kit and advised middle notch for their kit with K&N lunch box and pipe. However factory is one of those you had to order a stage 1 or a stage 3 kit, not both in 1.
Its well known that they used the same mikuni's as stock, so yea try 145 and middle clip. Post back how it works.
Cool.

#5
145s, cool.

How about the mixture screws? is 2.5 turns out common or is it more like 4 or 5 turns out?

Also, I havent really posted here in years... Buddah, are you S****** (sp?)?  <---- Shhhh I"m Incognito.

The Buddha

Anywhere 2 - 6 has been used for mix screws. It will need a drop of silicone if you're running it @6 ... it may fall off and disappear down the road ... But, I have done up to 5.5 without it falling off.
Cool.
