Now I've heard a lot regarding Vance & Hines and slip-on Mufflers, but has anyone ever cut these out completely and gone with a baffle instead?  I ran with one for a while but had to replace in with the F1 because the nieghbors started giving me realy bad looks coming home late at night.  When I ran with the baffle in, she ran wild but the back pressure was intense and really loud.  Considering going back once I'm out of an apartment, but wondered if anyone out there has this set up currently.

Also, My GS is getting 33-35 mpg with Lunchbax/40/140/no washers (jet kit needle on top clip)/2.5 turns out/F1 Muffler.  Any suggestions to increase MPG?  I tried 147.5 jets and it just didn't seem right.  She had alot of hessitation around 45k-65k but discovered the @$$ clown that sold me the bike lied (or was lied to) about having a jet kit installed.  Replaced the stock 37.5 with 40 but stepped down to 140 thinking the main jet was too big.  If I pull the tank again, I wanna do it right, I hate taking the tank off.  If I do it again, I'm painting the frame black instead of the stock silver.

Thanks for the help!

Here's my set up.Lunch box,D&D exhaust,40-142.5-1 washer, and 2.5 turns out. There is a quite baffle that fits the V&H system.Might wanna check into that. All after market exhaust are flow through designs with baffles for less back pressure and less than deafining sound.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

ya man, after painting a few things black, my carbs started acting like a real treat ! ;)

put the stock needles in and 40 / 150, 2 #4's, 3 turns out. er, well it works for me (lunch box + V&H noisy thing)

are your slides stock ? float height ?

oh, i was kidding about the black paint. it really DOES MAKE THE BIKE FASTER ! ;)

Slides are stock and float height was not adjusted so it should be stock (hope so).  Either way, She rides just fine and I've been able to keep up with my buddy's 900 Duc, but I'm never satisfied.  I've heard a lot of different settings over the past year I've had my GS, so I'm just trying to get what works for me.  I got spoiled with my first bike, a KZ250...70+ MPG.  I know my GS will NEVER be that good, but it should be better then 34.  Thanks for the input.  How would the float height and stock slide affect the bike?
