The headlamp has to come with the back half (bezzel or black back box or whatever you want to call it) or else it won't work.  The GS headlamp assembly is a tiny bit smaller annd won't fit the lamp.  I am 99% sure of this as I converted my GS to an SV650 style.  The GS brackets I was able to use.  You need to email the seller and ask them if they are including it.

ALso the headlamp aiming adjustment bracket won;t work with the new headlamp assembly.  Plus you may need to open up the holes for the wiring a little but with an exacto knife.
There is more to this site than a message board.  Check out http://www.gstwin.com

Do you need a new headlight or are you looking to convert to the newer style? I have a complete light and bucket from my '93 if you're looking for a replacement.

I was looking to upgrade the current one I have.  The sotck one on my 92 works fine...just updating the look.
Thanks for the great info!

I installed the sv headlight into the gs bucket. You need everything that comes off in one peice when you replace the bulb (removing the two screws on chrome ring and pulling off the assembly-that whole assembly gets replaced). The black sv bucket does not fit the gs-too deep. The sv headlight is deeper than the gs and is a tight fit into the gs headlight bucket but it does fit with a little finessing the wiring that fits behind the headlight.

Check the How-to link for headlight bulb replacement on this site's home page for a picture of the headlight assembly needed. You also need to drill a small hole in the chrome ring of the sv headlight for the adjsutment screw-its on the opposite side from the gs one. My site has info on this swap as well, maybe same as here, maybe a little more-can't remember.

Good luck.

FYI bro.. I'm eyeing up the same mirrors.

I'm not big on calling 'dibs' on an auction.  After all, thats not really the spirit of an auction.  whoever wants it more is the one who gets it, right?

anywho, I called up the dealer here in State College, and they want me to bend over to the tune of 70 bucks for a set of SV mirrors... that's not gonna happen, so I may get in on the bidding if the price is right.

peace.

mirrors shouldnt sell for more than $40. If you guys are really in a bind try the classifieds on either socalsvriders.com or svriders.com Thats where I got my mirrors and rear pegs (both since sold).

The whole point of calling "dibs" is so each of you don't inflate the price of  the mirrors. Its one thing to win an auction, its another to have your buddy bidding against you forcing you to pay more than you woudl have otherwise. Which one of you HAS to have them?

Do I have to separate you two?

Going to my proverbial corner now  :nana:

I'm just looking to replace the worn out Napoleon shorties on my bike (they are useless to me at 6'2" and are pitted from road miles).

If someone has a greater need, I'll concede.  The original purpose in my post was to insure we weren't turning these mirrors into a goldmine for someone at each others expense.

Oh, Jeez.. alright... guilt-trip assimilated   .  Mine are ugly, and scratched, but they still work.

It seems to me though, that if you HAVE to have mirrors, you don't need to spend the dough for SV mirrors.  JCwhitney has cheap-o's that will do the job for 8 bucks each new.

Like I said, I believe its about who WANTS a particular item the most.  Its not like me winning the auction will take all 500 billion sets of mirrors off the market and keep the other guy off the road.  But I don't wanna ruffle any feathers, so maybe I'll look around elsewhere.  I would hope that anyone on this board would be smart enough to not bid more than the cost of a new part.  adjusting for shipping, I wouldn't bid more than 35-40 bucks for them.  Some knuckle-head might bid hight, but If/when that happens, it will probably be some yutz that has no idea what they are doing, naturally nobody from this board!!    :thumb:

anyway... that's my rant...mwdbruno, I'm really a nice guy.... but I'm having a rough week, and I can't argue with my boss, so I'm starting WWIII over a set of mirrors to vent       :bs: so bear with me.  its nothing personal

seriously, I've got all winter to find better mirrors.  If you're in SoCal (you are in SoCal, right?) you'll be able to use them more than me for the next 3 or 4 months.  Snow's coming soon.  It's gettin' to be project time for us Yanks ;-)  I'm out to get mirrors, windscreen, shorten front signals, possibly progressive springs, and jets(?).  I should be able to stay busy through the winter on that list.

Didn't mean to throw a guilt trip your way...and agree with your points of the hundreds of mirrors and other parts available for us.

I'd even be willing to wager the mirrors currently listed won't be the last if they don't work out for any of us.

VT, I rarely take things personal...you're fine bro
And I've been there with the "rough week" deal...Mine usually follows the actions of the ex-wife (the bosses usually leave me alone), and have been known to rant a bit myself.
