With all respect, what do you guys think about having a separate Permanent Discussion for each generation of GS500 Bikes depending on the year? This shall help post, repairs, upgrades, new ideas, maintenance topics, for sale/trade etc. in relation to the year of your Bike.
For example:

1st Generation GS500: (e.g, you would click on this link, and in the threads you would find ALL the information and more in regards to the respective year and model of your bike, the same will apply for the other generations)

2nd Generation GS500:

3rd Generation GS500:

I think this would help all the members from the forum and guests to navigate the Forum pages quicker if researching a particular subject in regards to ther Bike generation (year). Just a thought :thumb:

Bike has not changed much over the years so probably not worth starting individual threads.

They're all the same except for a little plastic wrap on the newer ones.  Inside the GS-F beats the heart of a GS-E trying to get out.

Would we have a seperate group for those who have converted their F models to E models?

Very True, although it would be interesting to see the variety of topics in regards to each generation. As explained in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzuki_GS500, the Suzuki GS500 era generates from 1989 to present, almost 20 years in the making. They vary from naked versions to full body versions. Some of us might have an specific questions pertaining to that particular year of the Bike since every Bike could be very unique in its own way. Thanks for your reply.

It wouldn't be worth the trouble since almost everything has stayed the same on these bikes for the last twenty years.  Sure, there are the faired ones, but that doesn't really matter anyway because of the fact that a lot of the guys have converted from F to E models.  I think that if we were to start different sections for the different years, then there wouldn't be as much sharing of ideas that applies to ALL of our bikes, no matter the year.  You would have to go to the K2 section to see what the guys in there are doing, and then the K3 section to see what they are doing, and so on...  Why not just have it all out in the open in one place for everyone to see every time they log on.  We're already fighting the stickies battle since they are beginning to clog up the few sections we have now.  Could you imagine the headache of adding more sections and stickies to what we already have?  It would be too difficult to keep up with, and to police the tards I think.

Unless you expand to include the pre-89 GS twins

Yea, you still seem to be missing the fact that THEY ARE ALL THE SAME  :thumb:

Here is a list of the changes throughout the years...from '89 to '04.  (From bottom of the page that you provided a link to Joseq)

1989 GS500E introduced to North America
1990 Clip-on handlebars replaced with standard bars.
1994 Gunmetal colored rims and slightly different frame color for this model year.
1996 Front brakes changed.
2001 Tank, rear plastics, seat, and tail light redesigned. Carburetor changed from a two-circuit design (pilot jet and main jet) to a three-circuit design ( pilot jet, mid-main jet, main jet) to help with better carburetion throughout the rev range. Loss of "E" designation.
2003 No GS500 model sold in the US.
2004 GS500F introduced. A full fairing and oil cooler added.

Like we have been saying, there haven't been enough changes to these bikes to warrant year specific sub-forums.  :thumb:

I'd add following to the list of changes through the years:
2004 - new fuel petcock design - much better one to be honest  :thumb:

rest as posted above, therefore no need for specific forum for each generation.

cheers

Yellow 2004: K&N Lunchbox, Leo Vince SBK, 2005 GSXR Turn Signals, 20/65/147.5, 15T front sprocket, Progressive Springs etc...

I think we should try to model the forums after katriders.com

They only have 2,000 more member than us, yet their forum seems so much larger with a lot more participation.

There are a lot of good sub categories within the main forum, which is what I think we could use around here.

Even if you add all the subforums. People will ignore them, not use search, and post in the general forum. This isnt meant to be bitchy. Its just a natural tendency. Heck Ive done it to.

I actually think that part of the reason this site works is that the front page, non-forum, has a lot of useful information. And then when you get into the forums your not faced with 200 choices.

I only said about breaking down the forums if we wanted to add sections for pre-89 GS's. Since every now and then a question pops up about them and that they arent connected to the models we have.

The topic of additional forums have been brought up many many times. The only addition has been the FAQ Forum, besides the 2 M&G sub-forums for our island riders. There could be a be a benefit from a couple of new forums. Doubtful that the posts would be started in the correct forum, which would be more work for the Mods to correct them.

A single thread to list the changes of the GS through the years posted in the FAQ would be enough.

The only immediate need for another forum would have to be for Buddha's Bargins  :icon_razz:

Ever notice that a mod rarely, if at all, has a post in one of these threads?
Common sense in not very common.
