My accident - details for the ones who are curious

Last night (May 21st 2008), I was riding home from work around 8pm. I had gone to work with my dad in his car to pick up the bike since it didnt start earlier. I jumped it with my jump starting kit and started riding home.

At the corner of Tampa and Nordoff I was behind a bus, the light was still green, when I went through the intersection. I was in the middle lane (3 lanes per direction + 1 turn in center lane) going east bound on Nordoff. This Geriatric Buffoon took a left from the center lane right into me (he was either going into the gas station or the bank of america). I dont know HOW he didnt see me. I saw him, I saw him in the center lane waiting and then all of a sudden he took a left. If i remember right a car went through on my left before he initated the turn. In anycase when i noticed him turning I started to do an emergency avoid move, and swerved to the right, i thought i had just made it through and bang.. he hit my left leg (a issue of judgement from me - i thought i made it i didnt) - Later I found out that he also hit my bike rearset (rear peg). I stopped immediately on the right. He stopped on the first lane (slow lane), kinda looked like i came out of nowhere. Sorry bud I was right there, you didnt see me. (So much for riding strategies). Anyway my dad didnt see this accident cause he was a bit behind but I did flag him down. I think he thought I was out of juice on the battery again, didnt realise i got hit.

Anyway I called LAPD, they came and took a report. I then proceded to ride the bike home with the swollen leg (i was not goign to leave it there) and then I drove myself to ER. Mom was with me while goign to ER (she drove me back) and Vanessa came over all worried when she got my text (how cute, i am thankful to have her as a friend).

Anyway I have a bad bruise on the left side of my leg. The riding gear did its job, protected my leg from breaking. I was wearing my Teknics Freeway Riding boot. Not the most 'hardened' boot, but it worked. Its got paint scrapes on the boot.

Pictures of the boot and leg after I can get it off the Iphone.

By the way the guy who hit me was 87 years old! . I know GS Jack is around that age and is still riding well. I think lighting conditions have a lot to do with this accident.

Glad ur ok not ded, and expect to get at least a few bones thrown your way for the injury. Ive kept my own claims at a bare minimum but god knows the companies make insane money hand over fist.

I run brights all day long now and I flash brights on questionable approaches against oncoming left hand turners. Also slow way down and veer way right compared to how I used to ride. Had 2 similar accidents in a week: one ran, the other totalled my first bike.  :thumb:
