hey, everyone!, if you are ever in east tn, come ride the dragon. no,no, get your mind out of the gutter! the dragon is part of hwy129 between tn and nc. crosses the border. when you get to the end, get the tee-shirt that says i survived the dragon. from what ive been told, you are looking at approximately 311 curves inside 11 miles., i do believe that means no straightaways. ought to get a bunch of the east coast gs'ers together, and ride it sometime. that is where i am going once i get my forks, and get the rest of the stuff put on this bike

I've been there many times. It is 318 turns in 11 miles, but that's because they count evey apex. It's really a little over 200 turns. There are no straights or guardrails.

From what i've heard it's not a good idea to head out there on weekends, cuz there are sport-bikers that ride white line to white line. Unless, of course, that's what you're going for.  :)

DavidGS

Actually, it's the 18 wheelers that run from white line to white line that you really have to look out for.

Did the Dragon back in 2001. After leaving the Honda Hoot, JP and I  went over the Dragon and up the Blue Ridge Parkway to I-77 where we headed north to home.  The Dragon is quick fun but the lower 200 miles of the BRP is all day fun.  Miles and miles of non stop twisties.  Been back to the BRP several times since.

407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

ohgood

after living in florida a while, the change to birmingham should be enough to satisfy by twisties needs for a while. oh, and hills oh no !

once the new wears off in b'ham, i'll make it over there. the wife will be broken in to riding her own hopefully by then, and we'll make a weekend adventure of it.

no kids, no dogs, no mother-in-law, and lots and lots of twisties :D

Yea I was out on a weekday and I rounded a corner to find a motorcyclist in the middle of my lane coming the wrong way. If I had been riding fast enough I would have hit the guy. Luckily I was going at a very relaxed past. I hit my horn but that was about all I could do.
It takes all kinds and I'm one of them

I really want to ride the Dragon someday. The closest twisties to me are about 2 hours away, and they're not even that good.

Look up highway 36.  So many fun parts to that road its crazy.  I can't believe more people don't ride it just for that reason.  36 between red bluff and carlotta CA.

I was hoping this highway was somewhere near me but DAMN, it's way in the boonies man. Even for folks that live in the Bay Area. Nope, you got it all to yourself Bombadillo. Enjoy.

Our trip to the dragon is just over a week away!     I can't wait!  Nine days and counting down!   :thumb:  :icon_mrgreen:  8)

The Deals Gap group from 2006.  From left to right:
Rangerbrown, Ashman, Alphafire, Thatguy, and me (oramac)

P.S.  Ranger sold his GS500F and went for navy training.  Hasn't logged in since January.  Alpha got rid of his GS and bought a motard, I believe, then got banned last year and has never been back.  And Thatguy, if I am correct, is currently deployed in Honduras, now owns a Ninja 650, and last logged on in January.  I think Ashman and I are the only remaining members from that trip.
Something is wrong with my twin...all of a sudden it's V shaped!  Wait, no, now it's a triple!  ...and I IZ NOT a postwhore!
