hey guys, i'm getting ready to make an online gear purchase.  looks like the 2 retailers that carry the 3 items i want (jacket, boots, cover) are ridegear and motorcycle accessory warehouse. the ridegear total comes out to $300 with free shipping, the MAW total is around $250 with $20 shipping.

are there any customer service issues with MAW? their archaic website worries me, but their deals are great.

The jacket boots etc usually are cheaper at newenough.com... Pantablo posts some eye popping deals from them. Try them as well.
Cool.

eh just dug up a BBB report on MAW:

QuoteThe company has an unsatisfactory record with the Better Business Bureau due to unanswered complaints and a pattern of complaints. Some complainants allege when they make a purchase, the wrong item is shipped and the company does not give refunds for the product or shipping the item back to the company. Other complainants allege products ordered from the website are not what they are stated to be or the price is incorrectly stated on the website. The company was previously located in Colorado Springs, Colorado where the company has an unsatisfactory record with the Bureau in Colorado Springs, due to unanswered complaints and a pattern of complaints regarding wrong items shipped and consumers must pay the freight fee to return the item. As of July 25, 2003 Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse has requested that the Better Business Bureau no longer forward complaint correspondence to their company.

The Bureau processed 14 complaints about this company since the firm's BBB file was opened in February of 2003. 14 of those were closed in the last 12 months. These complaints concerned advertising issues, delivery issues, product quality issues, refund or exchange issues, customer service issues and credit or billing issues. Of these complaints, 1 was closed when the company addressed the disputed issues and exhibited a good faith effort to resolve the complaint and 13 were closed with no response from the company. When evaluating complaint information, please consider the company's size and volume of business. The number of complaints filed against the company may not be as important as the type of complaints and how the company handled them.

i think i'll buck up the extra $30 and order from ridegear.  i wanted to buy from newenough, but i've got my eye on a pair of those joe rocket 'orbit' boots. and they don't carry covers either. next time...

Give www.motoxoutlet.com a try. I just bought a Joe Rocket jacket from them, and they were cheaper than ANYBODY else on the web. Fast shipping too.

Hmmm I notice that MotoXOutlet is in Orem, Utah.  I believe our own Kerry hails from that same tropical paradise.  Wonder if he has any experience with them?  What say, Kerry?

Huh.  Never heard of them.

The dumb thing is, their web site says they are at 1752 S. State Street, and I work at 1815 S. State Street.  In other words, they're about 150 yards from my office building!

Sheesh - Orem finally hits the big time, and I'm clueless!    I'll have to open my eyes on the way home tonight.  Hopefully (for MY sake) it's a no-storefront warehouse or something.

Gee, maybe you should get to know those guys!  Maybe they'll hook you up with some cool swag or pass some good deals by your way   :)  Having fellow riders around is a good thing, unless they are a bunch of punks!

I used to buy from MAW without any problems. But then I never returned anything. The last purchase was a Shoei XSP-II helmet on clearance and they knocked off an additional $50 when I asked if they could do better on the price. There availability & delivery is not very good though. If you have doubts about a vendor look elsewhere. For riding gear, I have had excellent service from NewEnough and highly recommend them. For parts, I usually call Marietta Motorsports at 1-888-FASTLAP. They have good prices and I get parts within 1-2 days with ground UPS.
Common sense in not very common.

I've bought some stuff from MAW, usually to pick off cheap tires and discount/discontinued parts.  The prices ARE good, BUT where they get you is by charging excessive "shipping and handling" (up to $50 for a set of tires).  The couple of returns I have had to do have gone fairly well.
If I found a good deal, I would still buy from them again, but prefer to buy from other vendors when I can.

I recently bought front and rear brake pads from MAW. It took four days before they shipped.

Airwalk's World HQ has been located a few miles from where I grew up since the company started. Boalsburg, PA. I didn't know until 2001 when a friend was courting them to do their marketing. No big signs, nothing.

OK, here's the deal.

1) In the current phone book they're listed in a town about 12 miles up I-15 from here.  They must have moved in recently.

2) It's on that little "frontage" road, and not on the main drag.  And, that close to work, I'm usually concentrating on speeding OUT of the parking lot or slowing down to get IN it.

3) I might have seen it and subconciously dismissed it as a "motocross" place.   :?

4) As it turns out, there IS a storefront, but it's not a very big place.  I took a picture last night and another one on the way in this morning, but I haven't gone in the store yet.  Maybe at lunch time today.

The space on the near corner of the "strip" is vacant.  If you can't read the other signs, MotoXOutlet is next to a Dahle's "Big and Tall" store.  You'll notice that the Dahle's is both bigger and taller than the MotoXOutlet place.  ;)

Am I forgiven yet?  Just goes to show you the power of the Internet.  It can make the "little guy" look plenty big!
