I personnally don't understand the "fuel savings" with these gimmick micro cars.  My '91 Geo Storm with 5 speed manual got over 40mpg and was running great with over 260,000 miles on it  before it was destoyed by a semi with me inside (I was clipped on the driver's side rear end on the freeway at around 75mph, flipped over and skidded to a stop on the roof with only slight bumps and bruises).  The Metro's got even better gas milage.  The automakers could really make a killing by relying on some older, tougher, but still very reliable technology, just look at the GS.
