i gotta say i dont like it.not real comfy and to damn heavy.

frankieG

i have never heard of an r1 described as heavy...now uncomfortable that is pretty much standard for a bike with clip ons and race rearsets.  which i have both on my gs but i am used to that because that is the type of bike i have always owned.

Sportbikes dont handle like a standard at low speeds, and the mass until recently has tended to be higher up in the frame to aid fast tip in. Getting off a GS and on a R1 probably did feel very uncomfortable.

They're not for everyone.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

beauduke01

dont get me wrong their fast as hell and have a smooth ride, just not made for a fat guy

Believe me I understand dude, I have people tell me my bikes uncomfortable all the time.

No bitchiness or anything just saying.

IMHO those extremely sporty bikes are very uncomfortable to ride long distances. It is cool to zip past some babes around the city.
For long distances, the riding comfort is pathetic, with all the weight thrown forward.

GS rocks for the riding comfort!  :)

I got the chance to ride my friends ducati 749 but I turned him down cause it was our first ride out and I wanted to earn his trust before I dumped his shiney yellow duc.  But I amagine they (sportbikes) are a lot diffrerent to ride.. :icon_confused:

My 2001 GS500 was totalled Nov 4 2008
Now own 2003 SV1000 and love it!

Yea the tank slap style of ride is different to get use to than the up right style.

My 1996 Triumph Daytona 1200 is a strange ride.  My gut and legs mould round the fuel tank and hands comfortably rest on the clip on bars.  Riding style is low so your chest and gut rest against the tank to take your weight.  Looks uncomfortable but one of the best rides I have ever had.  10/10 for comfort on that model Daytona along with mind blowing torque.  Round town was a pig though as the bike was so bloody heavy.  Open road was sex on wheels.

R1's IMO are over rated.  Give me a nice Daytona or a Duc any day.

The chicks can't see you when you do warp 9 on an R1 but they see you when riding a thumping Daytona or Duc.
