What kind of popups are they?  I have never seen one at this site.  If you are running XP, you might be getting the ones trying to sell you a way to remove the popups they are sending.  If this is it, let me know and I will tell you how to stop them for free.

As far as regular popups, I use "Another IE Popup Killer".  It's a "completely free" one that I found on downloads.com.  Works quite well.

Adaware is another freebie app.

The popups may be coming from cookies and/or other spyware on your machine.  My dad's computer was getting popups from the time he opened explorer.  It didn't matter what he went to, he was getting adds from everything.
Download and install (free   ) AdAware from www.lavasoft.com - it removes about 20 things a day from my machine and I try to keep away from naughty sites on my work machine.   There are other good products that will stop popups, and will also stop hacking attacks.  I use Norton Internet Firewall (w/ antivirus) and it can block certain traffic including popups.

No popups from my site :nono:   I just don't think people here are interested in horny young asian babes.  Me thinks you have some sort of adware/spyware thing going one.

I'm with Miket...but then again I married a hot asian...er back to topic...

Popups are coming from cookies as stated above, or downloaded programs hidden in your registry. Thats what happened to me. Consensus is that both AOL and IE are the worst for these sorts of things. I switched to DSL, firewall, and I run Mozilla Firebird (call me paranoid).

Mine got so bad I couldnt get anything done online.

For users of IE who have it so bad that they can't get anything done online:
Delete your cookies and go into IE's Tools menu and select "Internet Options" and then the SECURITY tab from that window.  Raise your security settings.  Then when you browse on scat and pre-teen dating sites, the sites won't be able to  :nana:  your machine with spyware and malicious cookies.
Firewall & safe browser aren't paranoid... that's like saying you wear a helmet & jacket when carving the twisties is paranoid... actually, you have a much higher chance of being hacked then of falling off a bike.  An ex- of mine had her RedHat system hacked while she was using a university-sponsored dial-up.  We figured people hacked her for the challenge of it...  :dunno:

so a search for ad aware  its a free download, does deep scaning, registry too,  if you buy the delux it has a catch feature to keep the adware bugs from moving in.   just DL'd it and ran it, i had over 300 spy/adware programs popping up windows every single website, now, i have none. i might just buy the full ver. oh, its by lavasoft if that helps

Mozilla Firebird (firechicken?   ) is sweet!  It's fast and makes IE show it's age.  No popups for me!
Got a question... Firebird doesn't install like normal?  I'm used to programs today having to put stuff into the registry and uninstall info.  Firebird just sits there in a folder and doesn't even put itself into the start menu without you doing it yourself.  Somewhat unexpected...  :?

I also use Zone Alarm software firewall (free version).  It does well at stoping programs from accessing the internet without your knowledge.  I have found a few back door trojans with it.

I am sure there are other firewall progs that work just as well.

At home I use Safari and don't have any popup problems at all. The spyware won't run on my Mac.  :nana:

At work I use Crazy Browser or IE with Pop-up Stopper Free Edition and Google Toolbar. That gets rid of most of them.

Never accept anything for download/install when visiting a site until you check it out on your own. The stray pop-ups are often caused by stuff like New.net and Gator. Most claim to "enhance your internet experience".

Doxdesk is a good reference. I agree that you should use Ad-aware. Make sure to quarantine the stuff it deletes though, it has been known to botch removal of some software. New.net for instance, if removed incorrectly, will leave a Windows machine unable to do DNS lookups, which pretty much screws you.

Easier said than done. I didnt download anything I didnt ask for. hell, I dont even want to do the DSL speed test on the other thread because I'd have to download some Java thing I dont know anything about.

These aggressive advertisement programs download themselves without your okay or knowledge. I run adaware and usually get 40-50 items.

Welcome to the Unix style of programing. Small independant tools to do a task, rather than MS bloatware. There is also no Unix registry to add things to, so when it was ported to Windoze...

I can't speak for the Firebird branch, but I do know that Mozilla was written as a BSD app and then ported to other OSes later.

As for the shortcut on the start menu, look for that in the next major release of Firebird.

I have a question for people more computer savvy than me.  I just downloaded mozilla's firebird and it's fast. My big question now is can i unistall internet explorer or just ignore it.
I hate that program and would love to see it gone forever
