Got my CF Yoshimura on my GS and I love it!

I finally got my Yoshimura carbon fiber RS-3 can and midpipe mounted up, and was able to use most of the midpipe even though it came off of a Ninja. There's a kink in the midpipe near the collector but it's not bad and I think it won't be too noticeable with the belly pan on. It looks better than a lot of after market cans I've seen fitted up. I was able to keep the fat pipe look, and when I see just where the belly pan ends, I'll probably feather some satin black paint over the joint, as I intend to repaint the headers. I had to get the brake pedal cut and welded onto a piece of steel which we ground and shaped into a long arc, it's still rough tho. Because after we got everything on, guess what? Doh! The brake pedal hit the pipe!   :cookoo:  Now it fits over the pipe when "floored" and it's in just the same position that the stocker was.

I put some JB weld on it but it takes so long to set up it was a pain to work with. Bondo would probably be easier but the JB self levels for a long time. I think it needs a couple more applications to smooth out the curves. The bike is quieter, the plugs have some tan deposits and a tiny bit of black now instead of looking brand new with some little bit of white, looking hot and lean. So my stock muffler apparently had more holes in it than I could see.

And I got some tacky CF look levers to match...

Here's pics.

Looking great - it's got a cool low-exhaust-feel to it.  I reckon you should hit up some pegs next, to do your super-sporty exhaust justice  :icon_razz:

Thanks guys, I love the fat pipe with the lowered bike, the stock pipe looks anemic to me. And because the bike is dark w/o much bling, I really wanted the cf, and got it used off eBay with the pipe so got the can, pipe and flange for a couple bills. It's really got a mellow sound now, but is richer and deeper, it doesn't have that GS sound now. It sounds nice at all speeds, doesn't give me a pain in my head. Also I like how we got the line of the muffler set up with the lines of the bike, and it has a little tuck in in the back. It definitely has a lot of air coming through too.

I'm not sure how it's affected the response of the bike, it seems a touch less peppy and quick, but the plugs look right, so it seems healthier for the engine. The overall response feel smoother, and the bike feels sweeter to me now. It does feel more torquey, but maybe it's my imagination!  ;)

Any ideas on how it should perform w/my rejet @ 22.5, 65, 147.5 with a lunchbox? My mileage seems to be about 50-55 too.

It'll go great-guns.  I noticed the jetting difference right away.  Also my choke doesnt get such a work-out anymore.

I think it may have taken a small mileage hit, but to be honest its insignificant enough (imo) that it's hard to tell.

Hi Phil,

It actually seems just a bit slower in throttle response that my wide open drilled stock can, the stock had the pulgs running clean with totally clean insulators and a whitish barely tan barely there residue, (NGK Iridiums) and the Yoshi has the plugs a nice light tan and more evenly coated on the top and a touch on the insulator, and a little carbon on the top of the thread. It warms up just a tad slower, it seems to be running just a bit richer with this can and pipe.

Yes, new pegs would look better.  ;)

Tang, I got it off eBay, it took a bunch of tries where I got outbid over what I was willing to pay, and I guess the timing was finally right, took me about 2 months of looking. It was $200 plus $30. shipping, and $80. to the muffler guy who bent the midpipe, fitted it, welded it, and welded up and did a lot of grinding and shaping on my revised brake pedal included.  He did a decent job, not perfect but for west coast LA area prices, it was cool. Like I noted there's a tweak in the pipe but when I'm done I doubt it will be very noticeable, and it saved the midpipe, so I'm happy. You need to have that flange or a slip on, but the diameter is usually larger than our stock pipes so it presents some need for mounting creativity.

Guy's name is Mario, he's at 2660 Lincoln Blvd in Santa Monica for anyone close to him. It's called Performance Muffler. He had a super sweet Mustang fastback in there that was just gorgeous.

Do a search for "Yoshimura carbon fiber exhaust", then look for the link to save the search and click it so eBay will send all the new listings to your email inbox, then sort through them and see what might fit. Click the "watch this item" on the ones you like so you can keep track of them in "My eBay". I checked all the GSs on YouTube that had aftermarket Yoshis and also GSTwin and looked at how they had them fitted, what the model was so I could get an idea how it would look on my bike, and then I used AuctionSniper.com to make my bid on my best guess. I'd say that having the midpipe really helped, because even if it had to be cut, you need the flange part that attaches to the can, or it canl look like crap trying to weld it on. My welds are at the collector, where it's more easily blended/hidden, and my chin spoiler will also help hide it, plus I love the fat pipe look.
Hope that helps!

Looks awesome.

As an aside...what kind of windscreen are you sporting?

Hi Chokstick,

I was looking for a post and found this, sorry for the late answer! The flyscreen is stock to the bike, I dunno if it was a 2001 option or '89 and back. It came with the bike from the PO, I had to scrounge eBay to find the matching chin spoiler that goes with it, which I haven't mounted yet. There's a bike in the photo album that's the same but has the spoiler too, they look really cool and sporty together. That little fly makes a huge dif vs. naked from what I have experienced. It diverts a lot of the buffeting, keeps the wind off of my chest pretty good up to about 80 on the fwy, maybe 50-60 on on Mulholland.
