Last time I checked children need basically the same things regardless of color...they need a home, food, love, friends, toys, etc.  What's the class supposed to teach the parents?  How to cook fried chicken and pork chops?

I'm just wondering what they would possibly teach you in that class. I would love to take it and find out.

My aunt and uncle, white folks, have four adopted children, three of whom are black.  I can understand the part of the training which was said to deal with the race-specific challenges which arise.  Namely the problems of other people's bigotry toward bi-racial families.  But the rest is garbage.  My cousins are indeed healthy mentally and physically and I think are very lucky to have the parents whom they do have.  I just cannot believe that race would be a determining factor on where to place the children...wow man some people have WAY too much time on their hands to think and make up dumb and harmful plans.  That last quote in the article by Eric says it all.

I prefer to call a neighborhood a neighborhood because it sounds unifying, as opposed to "white/black/hispanic/mixed". Just like African American or Anglo American sounds seperated, and in my opinion, dumb.

As far as someone calling me names like cracker, that doesn't happen very often. Maybe I'm an imposing dude, or just too scary looking, I dunno. Maybe it's the type of crowd I'm usually around too. Eliminating the negative and latching onto the positive has worked pretty well for me so far

You can find it as racist as you want...and it's well within your rights to believe I'm racist for not having a "positive" view of this program and for understanding that I have not yet met a black woman who couldn't fry a bad chicken.  Have "you" ever met a black woman who couldn't fry a bad chicken?

Actually I would like to see this thread locked, I see no positives in this discussion. Again thats just my opinion.

Who said anything about predispositions?  I said I've never met a black woman who couldn't cook up a good chicken.  I then asked if you've ever met a black woman who couldn't cook up a good chicken (a question you failed to answer).  The only thing that has to do with race is the commonality of the black women I've know to be able to cook a good chicken.

Lets break it down another way:  It is not to say that all black women can cook a mean chicken, but that the mean chickens I've had were all cooked by black women.

Finding kinship between cooking chicken and hating a person because of the color of their skin can only be accomplished by an idiot.

"They" want a mongrelized "raceless" society, which would  in theory be actually easier to "control", instead of a "tribal-like" situation. You see, as long as there are races, there will be racism. And it's perfectly normal. The main goal is to instill white guilt, which has been quite successful via all media outlets, from school books, to cartoons, to movies, so called novels, and so forth. This white European based society in the USA is under a many tiered attack from 360 degrees each and every waking day from those that have "the money" and the wherewithall to do this. The "joe average taxpayer" gets jackhammered so much that even "he/she" begins to think it is normal. The end result will be socialism with momma and daddy government taking most all of your check and distributing it to the have nots. This will end up being on a global scale, I'm afraid. The sad part about it is that due to the indoctrination from so many forms of mass media over the last 40+ years, what you end up with are sheeple (sheep people), men with no testicles, women that actually believe they have balls and will actually line up to get a red hot poker up the ass if "the government" tells them it will "help the children" and be for "the good of us all". In short.........we need an awakening, an awakening of who and what real men and women ARE/were. Ditch the feminists, the emasculated-effiminate males, and spineless politicians that represent us. We need a new political party of "real America". We need to "go back in time". You have TOTALLY missed his point..even as far back as his original post.

The original sentiment was that it is absurd to think that, for instance, a white couple would somehow need to 'learn' how to 'raise' a black baby.  To say that type of trainning is necessary implies that black children are somehow a lower species FROM BIRTH.  It treats the baby's color as if it were a birth defect...that it is on par with mental retardation, downs syndrome, etc, and that people need to learn how to cope with such a circumstance.  Makenzie's point was that such a program is as demeaning to the child, and to the race in which it happens to belong, as it is to the adoptive parents.

His statement about learning to cook fried chicken was an obvious sarcastic slap in the face aimed at the people who came up with the idea for this ridiculus program...because that is probably the kind of stupid thing they would believe you would neeed to do to make the baby happy and well adjusted.  I thought his meaning was quite obvious.

And, by all means, lets kill any dialog about race relations...if we ignore it, it will just go away.      

the real issue is why dont NATURAL parents need to take classes?
if any of you know adoptive parents (I know many) you would be AMAZED at how long and difficult the process to adopting a child is...its ridiculous what some have to go through. There should be 'classes' for everyone on how to raise children properly.

I know a couple. My parents are adopters, yes, it wasn't easy to actually adopt a child, even 30+ years ago. My siblings turned out ok. There were no parenting classes. My wife was also adopted, her mother is a real gem. I appreciate all the love and understanding she rained onto my wife. Great parents = better kids.

Yes, there should be classes for raising children. THey're free, well defined, and easy to find if you actually want the lumps that come with asking YOUR GRANDPARENTS for their opinions. Careful though, they won't cut you any slack

As far as classes by the government - that's scary. You mean the same government that says sending parents away for a year at a time and handing a child a 'daddy doll' is ok ? The same government that turns away veterans when they (after 30-40 years of private sector work) come to the VA for a checkup ? The same gov that says they know best when it comes to the economy, taxes, and eminent domain ?
