I have alittle issue.  I have read some of the post but still unsure on how to go about this... Or to know where else to start... Well it started Saturday a friend and I went riding and we are stopped at a bridge that was letting a boat through.  Well anyway I turned my bike off and when the boat passed I turned the key back on and there was no power.  However we thought it might have been the ignition but it wasn't cause now its working. Well we pushed it to the side and I pushed started it and it cranked up for alittle while and then went dead.  Well I thought it might have died because of no oil but checked the oil and it was low but not completely empty.  Well this is the problem we got it back to the house and after trying to turn the key back on it just started clicking.  Like the clicking was coming from solenoid.  Its just a load repeatitive clicking. and it wont try and turn over. I can push start it and it will stay running but I don't want to have to push start it all the time.  Anyone have a general idea on what I should check besides the battery.  Could the starter be messing up.  Or say the starter relay? Or whatelse should I look for? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I think you should start by testing the battery and go from there. Take the battery to a repair shop for a load test. They can tell you if the battery is in good condition. If it's not, easy fix... new battery.

Also, it's a good idea to make sure the connections to the battery are good; you can take a little file to get good clean metal for the contacts. You might also want to use some dielectric grease on the contacts.

The clicking is from the starter not getting enough power from the battery to turn the engine over completely.

Like berto said, it could be your battery. Maybe it's not holding a charge or something. Get some jumper cables and start your bike off your friend's bike or something. If it runs fine after that, it's definitely the battery. The other thing I can think of is a bad regulator/rectifier. The regulator is responsible for charging the battery and providing power to the rest of the bike. If that went bad, then your bike should die soon after you take off the jumper cables.

Even though you got a pretty new bike, there could very well be a problem with the battery. They're not great devices - sometimes this just happens  :dunno_white:

Just curious, how many miles do you have on it? My '06 just did the same thing on Thursday and I have 13300mi.

Well I have about 10000 miles on it... It all started up when I ran completely out of gas the other day. I forgot I had it on reserve after I put some gas in it.  I tried to crank it a couple of times before it would just die because of no gas.  I got it to a gas station and had to push it after I filled it up.  Well we put a charger to it to try and see the battery show it had enough volts.  But I can't recall if we put a tester to it after trying to crank it.  So it could be a regulator, eh? Maybe I should check that cause we took the starter relay or soleniod? Can't really verify if its which one due to some people saying its the relay and then when I look up the part up says its a soleniod.  Are there both on the bike? I do appreciate the quick responses its helping me out thinking what it possibly could be. But I know you are going to have wear and tear on the bike itself so its no biggie.  Do you have to take the crank casing off to get to the starter? I don't want to jump into that if its not necessary but I do want to be well prepared in case it is. Thanks for the help guys.

Well the clicking if coming from the starter relay or solenoid...because you can put your finger on it while you are trying to turn it over and its just a repeative clicking... I am going to try and check the battery terminals once more..  Can just a regular auto place test the battery or would I have to take it to a motorcycle shop?  Its a 12volt battery so I could just take it to a place like Autozone right to test it.  Reason is I go to school and work till late so all the cycle shops around my town are closed down.

I am fairly certain that any auto parts store can perform the load test for a motorcycle battery. You may want to find a place that sells motorcycle batteries because they will often perform a load test for free (with the intention of selling you a new battery if the current one fails).

Keep us posted on how it works out!

if you ever hear clicking upon starting 99.9% is your battery is dead, that doesnt mean its bad I get that problem when I let the bike side for about 2 weeks with out touching my bike after a good charher and a few rides she is as good as new.

 these post are making me laugh, its ridiculous. somethings up with the 06's maybe crappy batteries were put uin  :dunno_white: i've got a brand new battery in and ill keep it off the tender for a while to check if it fixed the problem. i was testing out the voltage and with everything off the battery is at about 12.6vlts at 2.5k its around 14.3 vlts at 5k it goes back down to 13.7 ish vlts which seems kind of wierd if you ask me- wouldn't more rpms mean more power?

I wouldnt say a crappy battery if its an 06 and he/she got it in 07 than the batt sat for a bit over a year with little run time causing the batt to first go dead than sit with no juice than charged months later and forced to be new again :nono:. not ginna happen. second He got it used and the guy let it sit  than that brings me back to begining of my post
