Looks like I'm going naked - first crash on the new bike.

Well it happened!  :P  I went out today for a ride. I stopped by a local elementary school to practice with leaning into turns. Spent a good 30 minutes there leaning nicely into turns and then I started rubbing hard parts (pegs and such). At that point I started to practice leaning off the bike (like dragging a knee, but without ever actually coming that close to dragging a knee). Well as I go around one last time before I head home, I decided to try a left hand turn, which I'm most comfortable with, in a higher gear. Well I enter the turn good but mid way, I target fixated on the curb and there were leaves there.. and that's exactly where I ended up - on my side.
Thankfully I was wearing all my safety gear. The elbow protection was key since I took the brute of the force there. All I have to show for it is a bruise on the side of my upper right leg.. But my bike is beat up a bit. The right side fairing is all effed up, scratches on the case guard and broken turn signal. Looks like I am going naked with my GS500.  :D Any suggestions on where to find parts/what to do/ etc let me know.

Sorry to hear the news, Yev. pay attention to whatever pain you've got. I had a similar crash in November and started feeling pain in my foot when I tried to pronate; it started happening a week or so after my crash. Good to hear you're ok, though, and honestly the bike still looks great.

I also decided to go with the naked bike. i have some parts that you might be interested in: headlight bucket and lens/headlight, two gs500 e mirrors (one is scratched), and one F model turn signal. I don't have brackets, though. I'm not sure if the turn signal bulb is broken, but the wiring did shear off when I went down. You'd have to solder the wires to the proper electrical boots; they were lost in the pile of leaves I crashed in.

I recommend you try to get all the parts from the same person, but if you're interested in any of these let me know. Also, keep us posted about the conversion. I'm curious to see how you wind up doing it. I'm currently struggling with it.

Yeah it was def. target fixation because the line I was picking the whole time did not take me out that close to the leaves. But the leaves didn't make it any better when I tried to gain control.

Your out of control.. I might still go back to faired in the future so I will probably keep the fairing, unless I get some wild offers, which I don't expect to.  :flipoff:

Don't see why you have to go naked?  Who cares if it's scratched up a little bit.  It would be different if it was cracked n stuff though.

Yev

Yeah, I don't know if I'm going naked yet or not.. Just contemplating it.

+1.
A new turn signal and you're good to go. :thumb:
It still looks beautiful, generally I don't like F models but I've got a soft spot for black ones like yours. :thumb:
