Well I blew the motor in my 06 gs500f (although the fairings are stripped so it isnt actualy and "F" anymore) it was totally dry on oil (which is funny 'caue i didnt change the oil last, the "authorized" dealer did) so of course they just blame it on me and im stuck. so i got another motor; its actually from a '97 GS500E - of which i have been assured that it will function in my bike; got it mounted; fits nice and so on but i noticed that there is no place to connect my Oil Cooler;
( http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/showschematic/m9752sch509115 )

Or my Second Air;
( http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/showschematic/m9752sch508455 )

These parts do not appear in the part listings for the 97' GS500E so I'm Assuming it has something to do with the F's Fairings and that these parts are now extraneous; but would like some assurance that this wont cause my new motor to blow.

Thanks for your time

The '97 motor doesn't use an oil cooler. As long as your not running fairings your engine should stay cool.

I'm not sure what the second air is for, but the '97 motor doesn't need it.

They added these things when they put fairings on the bike I believe.

You will need to swap some electrical components as well. The signal generators are different, they changed in 04.
Common sense in not very common.

yeah hell just run it nekkid no need for oil cooler mostly. unless in a hot climate or something ( or in a faired bike )

one more engine bites the dust...whats the count for this year 8 or 10...  At least now with the 97 you can do the timing advance from bob.  Make sure you keep the carbs from the 06  they have three jets instead of 2.  Have fun swapping it over.

The 89-02 signal generator will not work with the rest of the 04+ electrics, mainly the ignition box... different signals. He will need to use the signal generator from his 06 for it to run.

Air cooled motors use more oil. The excessive failing is probably a combination of lack of checking oil and incorrect checking when they do.

I knew the signal generator was different from  o4 on.  but i would think the engine would just swap over and plug right in.    hope he checks his posts often

If not he will find out the hard way. The plugs should be different since the 89-02 have 2 pick-ups and the 04+ has 1.
